Pitch Darkness is a co-op board game for 1-6 players aged 14+ set in a fantasy world.

Players will have to go in search of adventure as a single team. After everyone chooses a hero for themselves, the whole group will descend into underground lairs and tunnels. Wandering in the darkness, the heroes will face various monsters and other creatures guarding the dark labyrinths, get legendary artifacts and defend their right to be called Lightbringers.

The game itself controls enemies of all kinds: from a bunch of goblins to huge monsters. Your heroes will be able to fight them with a sharp blade or even magic - both in ranged combat and face to face.

Explore dungeons, defeat enemies and get new, more powerful weapons as a reward that will help you survive in future difficult trials! Usually, the heroes need to complete all the objectives of the chosen adventure. Each adventure can be played either on its own or in Story mode, which allows you to follow the progression of your characters as the story unfolds.

Preparing for the game is a rather complicated process, consisting of many points, which are described in detail in the rules.

If this is your first game, it's best to start with "Tutorial" and only then move on to adventures, which should be played in turn to follow the plot. More experienced players will be able to replay an adventure with different victory conditions, or even create their own adventure using fragments of the game board and various tokens.

After laying out the fragments of the playing field and tokens (according to the current adventure), you need to prepare decks of cards. There are 7 types of cards in the game, some of which are also divided into levels! There are artifacts, guardians, wandering monsters, equipment, treasures, doors and event cards.

The game "Pitch Darkness" lasts several game rounds. Each round consists of 5 phases, which are played in the following order:

HERO PHASE
The first player starts their turn by activating their hero. Initially, when activated, the hero can perform up to 3 actions. Each action is usually aimed at fulfilling the goals of a particular adventure, whether it is moving around the playing field, fighting enemies, collecting tokens from the field, or exchanging equipment with other players. After the hero has performed all his actions, the enemies he attacked can immediately counterattack
(if they survived, of course). When the player has completed the activation of their hero (and all possible counterattacks have been executed), the turn is transferred to the player sitting on the left. He activates his hero in the same way. The Hero Phase ends when all players have completed their turn.
ENEMY PHASE
In the course of the adventure, the heroes will meet enemies of all possible sizes and colors: from pathetic minions to terrifying wandering monsters. In this phase, according to certain rules, the actions of enemies are recouped. Enemies move across the playing field either patrolling the dungeon or actively looking for heroes. Of course, they also fight, shoot from bows and try in every possible way to ruin the lives of the heroes with their claws, swords and even magic. The good news is that the most powerful enemies carry valuable treasures that the heroes will need to
completion of the adventure. The bad news is that enemies usually know how to use all these useful items, and in order to get the legendary magic sword, you have to defeat the big man who aimed this blade at you!

DEVELOPMENT PHASE
As the game progresses, heroes will earn experience by destroying enemies or collecting objective tokens. During the development phase, they can use the experience gained to acquire new skills. These skills become active as soon as the corresponding level is reached in the game.

In the standard game mode, all acquired skills and all unused experience are reset before the next adventure.

If you want your characters to develop and the acquired skills to be saved between adventures, then you need to play in the "Story" mode.

EVENT PHASE
During this phase, the first player draws an event card and reads it aloud. The effects of the event card are applied immediately.

FINAL PHASE
The final phase ends the game round. During this phase, many game effects cease to operate, and the first player is changed: the first player token is passed clockwise to the player sitting on the left. After that, a new game round begins.

VICTORY AND LOSS
Pitch Darkness is a cooperative game, so players only win or lose together as a team. Players win if they have completed all of the adventure's objectives. The game is considered lost if the objectives of the adventure can no longer be completed.

All parts of the dungeon are divided into zones. Zones on the playing field are either light or dark. Light areas have a source of light (mostly a campfire or torch), while dark areas are immersed in darkness.

A hidden hero can plan an attack from the gloom, which will lead to a partial loss of defense of an unwary victim. Players can also try to control the movement of enemies, as lurking heroes are ignored when targeting enemies.

The booklet with rules and adventures is 56 pages of text with illustrations and examples. However, the terminology and the rules themselves are assimilated quickly enough. At the bottom of the page there is a link to the rules of the game.

We offer you to familiarize yourself with the video, in which, even on the prototype, representatives of the CMON company talk in general terms about the rules of the game.

In December 1564, strange events took place in Moscow that caused panic among the inhabitants of the capital. Tsar Ivan, having taken his family and several close boyars, loaded his entire treasury onto a sleigh, unexpectedly left Moscow. He took with him valuable icons and crosses and household utensils. The sleigh disappeared from sight, and the Muscovites were left in complete bewilderment. Is this a known thing? The king has left the capital! Why? Where? What for?

And the tsar, having visited the Trinity - Sergius Monastery, moved to the Alexander Sloboda, a hundred kilometers from the capital, and from there sent two letters to Moscow a month later. In one, he expressed his anger and imposed disgrace on the clergy and boyars, as well as officials for their treason, embezzlement of the treasury and other sins. Without stepping into these betrayals, he left the kingdom and decided to settle where God indicated to him. The tsar sent a second letter to all the townspeople and merchants. It was publicly read on Red Square. In it, the king wrote that people should not hold doubts: he does not have any anger against them and there is no royal disgrace on them. Life in the capital came to a standstill. The shops closed, the songs stopped, the streets were empty. The townspeople were in fear. They asked the metropolitan and the bishops to go to the king. A delegation of boyars, higher clergy and clerks went to Aleksandrovskaya Sloboda. They beat the king with their foreheads and asked him to return and rule the country according to his sovereign will, as he pleases. The king agreed, but only on special condition. From the entire territory of the Russian state, he singled out an inheritance for himself and took it under his control. So he hoped to protect himself from boyar conspiracies and attempts on his life. In February, he solemnly returned to the capital and announced the oprichnina. This and http://*****/user/f//examen/16_vek/pictures/43.jpg was a special condition.

What is an oprichnina? "Oprich" means "except". This word was not new: earlier it was called the special allotments of widowed princesses.

Contemporaries called guardsmen - associates of Grozny "kromeshniks". With their arrival, “pitch darkness” fell on Rus'. And “outer darkness” for the Russian people meant hell, and therefore the guardsmen were called the “hellish army”.

In Rus', there were, as it were, two states: the oprichnina and the zemshchina. Zemsky affairs were to be managed by the boyars "according to the old custom."

For the oprichnina, the tsar first recruited a thousand, and then six thousand "bad people." They gave the king a terrible oath not to know anyone and to obey only him. Among the guardsmen were nobles, and impoverished boyars, and foreigners, and people of humble origin. The main thing that was required of them was to be loyal to the king and prove this loyalty in practice. The king dressed them in black clothes and put them on black horses. They tied a broom and a dog's head to the saddle - this meant that they gnawed out treason like dogs and swept it like rubbish from the Russian land. The guardsmen were capable of any trick and believed that the law was not written for them. They could declare a traitor and kill anyone. They burned people at the stake, chopped off their heads, hung them, poisoned them with dogs, quartered them, flayed the Skin from the living, put them on a stake. The German oprichnik Heinrich Staden left notes on the events of those years: “If the oprichnik lived somewhere in the neighborhood of the zemstvo, then he could, without fear of any responsibility, take land and property from his neighbor.”

The king turned his palace in the settlement into a kind of monastery. He called himself hegumen, and the man of the 300 most fierce guardsmen - brethren. He himself rang the bells, recited prayers, and bowed so earnestly that his forehead was constantly bruised. After the service, a feast was held every day. Wine and mead flowed like water, tables burst with food. And after a hearty dinner, the tsar often went to prison, where his faithful friend and associate, the cruel and soulless Malyuta Skuratov, interrogated and tortured someone, most often innocent people. The king took away the estates from the owners and distributed them to his faithful servants, and moved the former owners to other lands, thereby breaking the relationships that had been established for centuries. The formidable king imprisoned his opponents and exiled to the outskirts of the state, and often betrayed painful executions. He loved to mock some nobleman: putting on a fur coat turned inside out, he put him on a horse with his face to his tail and drove around Moscow in this form. Hence, by the way, the expression "topsy-turvy". The king entered the names of his victims in the synodik - a memorial list and himself served a memorial service for them.

The king felt treason everywhere. To protect himself from her, he even wanted to leave the world and become a monk. All suspects were tortured, tortured, executed, and their property went to the guardsmen, and they did not disdain false denunciations, often wanting to profit from their victims. It wasn't just individuals who suffered. In 1570, the whole of Novgorod suffered. On a false denunciation, as if the Novgorodians wanted to betray him and go over to Lithuania, the tsar committed a cruel rout of the city. For a month and a half there were murders and robberies. Even babies were not spared: they were thrown into the icy water of the Volkhov.

AT last years the reign of Ivan the Terrible, the oprichny robbery subsided. The Tsar returned to Moscow. The terrible palace in Aleksandrovskaya Sloboda was empty.
