Decor of a wreath made of branches. Wreath of branches on the door

Traditionally, Advent wreaths appear in homes in the run-up to Christmas. Most often they decorate doors and fireplaces, and any interior is filled with anticipation of the holiday. You can also decorate a large mirror in a wide frame with a wreath on a satin ribbon, attach it to a cornice and decorate curtains, or even use it to decorate a Christmas table by placing candles inside the wreath.

I have already talked many times about how you can doChristmas wreath with my own hands, because this topic is relevant for me - there are no Christmas trees here. And that’s why the wreath is a real lifesaver.

So today I will tell you how to make a Christmas wreath from twigs. Make one like this wreath very simple. It does not require any special decorations. All the necessary elements can be found in the park during a walk. The basis of the Christmas wreath is flexible birch branches, and the decoration is various cones, nuts, and twigs. These branches are thin, flexible, roll well into a circle and do not break. Additionally, you can decorate with small Christmas balls for contrast.

So, let's go to the park (or forest) and collect branches. You can collect everything “that is in bad shape”: birch, willow, any shrubs and trees even unknown to you: o). Of course, you don’t need to pluck a bush clean, a couple of branches from one tree and to the next. We love nature! Take branches that are not thick, but not too thin.

Before you start creating, you need to keep in mind that cut rods dry out quite quickly and become unplastic, so if you decide to make a wreath with your own hands, you should not put it off for long.
At home, we collect all the branches into one neat bundle and tie them up. We place our creation in the bathtub or wherever you don’t mind (suddenly you have a gold-plated bathtub: o), fill it with hot water. And let's go have tea... For about an hour.

After this you need to twist the wreath. There are several options here:

Method 1. Make a wire frame and wrap it with rods. However, we still need to find the wire :o)

Method 2. If you did not pre-soak the branches, then before forming a circle from the twigs, each branch must be bent over every 5 cm, otherwise it may break during work.

We form a circle from one long branch.

Then, holding the woven ends of the first branch and the beginning of the second in one hand, we braid the first circle with the other. And so on, branch by branch. Gradually the branches begin to hold on to each other.

After the branches are all twisted, we take water-based paint (for example, matte for interior work, there is almost no smell and dries quickly) or acrylic paint. When painting the wreath, use a dry brush with a small amount of paint on the tip.

We cover our wreath with paint. Let it dry. Then, for added beauty, we spray it with gold paint from a can (sold at a hardware store or at a car dealer).

That's it - the hardest part is over! You can decorate the finished wreath with satin ribbons, beads, Christmas tree decorations, bells, felt figures, birds, decorative flowers and even ginger cookies.

You can hang it from ribbons from the ceiling (if you have something to tie it to), on a nail to the wall or on the door.

The wreath, of course, doesn’t have to be painted.

Method 3. And if you also managed to collect pine cones in the forest, then you can decorate the wreath in this interesting way.

For this we need: birch branches; various cones: pine cones, larch cones (you can also use medium-sized spruce cones, acorns), walnuts, dried cracker branches ; glue gun or some silicone glue in a tube; silver paint in a can; small Christmas balls; satin ribbon; two bells.
The cones must be dried on a radiator so that they open.

Take several branches, form a circle and tie their ends. We fold the birch branches into a bundle of such thickness that the bundle is completely covered by the palm. We fasten the bundle in the middle with a strong thread. Then we fasten again after 10-15 cm - and so on in a circle. At the end, we overlap the branches over each other and fasten them with thread.
Wind the remaining branches from above. Those. wrap around an already made frame of branches in a circle. We tuck the ends into the branches themselves (like the end of a thread in a ball). It turns out like this rim from birch branches.

We distribute the decorative elements along the base and create a composition. You don't need to glue it yet, as you may want to rearrange the order of the decorations.

Once you are finally sure that the composition is finished, you can start gluing.

After the glue has completely dried and the entire decor is firmly in place, we begin to paint our Christmas wreath silver. I think you know that we do this in a well-ventilated area or outside - using a can of silver paint.

On the eve of the New Year, it is customary to decorate your apartments and houses with New Year's decor. It’s not always possible to put up a Christmas tree in your home, but you really want to create a festive atmosphere. In this case, you can decorate your home with a decorative New Year’s wreath of vine twigs, which can be hung on the front door or anywhere where the wreath will delight you and create a good mood. The advantage is that it is made by hand and can use decorative elements that match your interior.

Many people will ask, “Where can I get a vine from which to make a wreath?” Almost everyone has a dacha, some live in private houses, everyone grows grapes, and if not, then ask your neighbor! I used wild grape vines for weaving; their vines are thinner than those of ordinary grapes, but they can be twisted equally. It’s very good that this is a natural material, you will be sure that it is non-toxic. You can involve children in the process, they will be happy to help you twist a wreath from a vine, or you can even weave a braid, the vine itself is very flexible, such a wreath will look quite original.

How to make a wreath from vine twigs with your own hands

For the master class we will need:

— Grapevine (I have a wild grape vine, you can use a regular grape vine).
- Leg-split.
- Scissors.
— Glue gun (can be replaced with Titan silicone glue or Moment Crystal glue, it is odorless and transparent in color).
- Glue stick.
— Decorative apples in sugar and regular decorative red apples (can be purchased at any florist store).
— Small red beads on a string.
— Snowman (I think that there is a snowman at every home, or you can buy one in any supermarket).
— Decorative gold bow.
— Decorative red bow.
— New Year’s Christmas balls are small in size and golden in color.
— Red tinsel.
— Decorative snowflakes of golden color.

We stack the grapevines evenly towards each other. You can adjust the number of branches yourself; the more vines, the thicker the wreath will be.

Now the vine needs to be twisted to give the future wreath a more beautiful look. To do this, take the vine with both hands and twist it.

We create the desired diameter of the wreath and secure the vine with twine, leaving “tails” of approximately 15 cm.

We fix the right “tail” with twine.

We also secure the left “tail” tightly with twine.

Thus, we get a grapevine blank for a New Year's wreath.

Glue apples in sugar to the upper right corner.

Below, between the bunches of apples, we glue red tinsel, winding it onto the wreath.

We glue a decorative gold, decorative gift and a Christmas tree ball onto the tinsel.

We give the snowman a decorative gift and a golden Christmas tree ball.

We tie the snowman with twine to the top center part of the wreath. We make a loop from twine, on which you can later hang a New Year's wreath.

Glue decorative gold snowflakes to the wreath.

Glue a decorative red bow to the vine above the snowman.

That's all, our DIY New Year's wreath made of vine twigs is ready. Create with love! Creative success and inspiration!

You can choose any color scheme for the decorative elements of the wreath.

Before you make the base for a wreath with your own hands, you should decide what materials are within walking distance and are not classified as expensive. A variety of materials can be used as the basis for a wreath.

DIY Christmas wreath

Before you make a wreath of branches with your own hands, it will be useful to know that the most suitable materials are willow, birch, oak, etc.).

DIY Easter wreath

Young flexible branches (the bark of willow trees can be peeled off) are twisted into a ring and secured with wire, fishing line or rope. The base must be left to dry for several days. Once dry, the branches will retain their ring-shaped shape. Before making a wreath of twigs with your own hands, you can choose different diameters of circles and form blanks of different diameters.

Straw base.

The straw also needs to be rolled into a ring and secured with wire or fishing line.

Wire base

Wire base.

For such a base, it is advisable to use thick wire or wire folded in several rows.

Cardboard base.

Any thick cardboard will do. Cut a circle of the desired diameter from cardboard with a hole in the center. For strength (especially if you use corrugated cardboard), cut out 2 circles and glue them together.

Cardboard base
Foam base

Foam base.

Sold ready-made, of different diameters in craft stores. There is a base for double-sided wreaths (you can decorate both sides) and a base for a wreath, where only the top part is decorated.

To create a wreath, you can use a floral ring-shaped base of piaflora for dried flowers or an “oasis” for living plants.

The porous structure of these materials helps to hold decorative elements on the wreath.

Wicker willow wreath

These wreaths (of different diameters) can be purchased at craft stores. These basics are beautiful in themselves; one bright decorative element is enough to decorate them.

Base from newspapers.

Several newspapers are rolled up with a roller and a ring is formed, everything is fixed with tape. This base has a “non-marketable” appearance, so it needs to be decorated with something on top, for example, covered with fabric.

Construction foam base

Construction foam base.

Draw a circle of the desired diameter on a piece of paper, then carefully squeeze the foam out of the can and let it harden. Excess frozen foam can be cut off with a sharp knife. From one balloon, several bases are obtained at once, which can be decorated with fabric, sisal or moss.

  • If you are making a light, airy wreath, then choose a base that is not very heavy. Opt for a wire or twig base.
  • For a solid, heavy wreath, a stronger base is chosen. Here it is better to use a foam base or one made from construction foam.

Before you make a decorative wreath with your own hands, you need to think about the options for its decoration, design style and overall design. Take a look around and you will see how many interesting materials you can use to decorate your wreath. It all depends on your taste. Any materials are suitable for decoration, from leftover paper, wallpaper to natural materials that can be found on a walk: leaves of various trees, berries, fruits, acorns, pine cones, herbs, cereals.

Examples of how you can make an artificial wreath with your own hands without any financial costs:

  • fresh flowers, plants, cereals, leaves, twigs with fruits;
  • dry cereals and leaves, dry meadow grasses; A wide variety of ornamental and wild plants can be dried. Cereals (wheat, oats, etc.) and various meadow herbs look especially beautiful in wreaths. There are many different ways to preserve flowers and plants. Here are just a few of them: drying in a natural state, hanging (herbs, cereals, buttercups, roses, etc.); drying in sand, silica gel (for example, the buds of some flowers are dried); drying in cotton wool, etc.
  • dried flowers (lagurus, popularly called “bunny tail”, decorative yarrow, helichrysum, statice, amaranth, etc.), poppy boxes, mature echinacea inflorescences, decorative onion inflorescences, dried roses, etc.;
  • sisal, coconut fiber, bast;
  • pine and spruce cones, acorns, moss, bark and various tree branches;
  • remnants of beautiful wrapping paper, wallpaper, corrugated paper;
  • various ribbons, braid, lace, sewing, beads, rhinestones, beads, etc.;
  • buttons of various colors and sizes, wooden, cardboard and plastic elements (they are also used in decoupage and scrapbooking);
  • artificial flowers, decorative fruits and vegetables, etc.

Basic tools that you may need for work

Basic tools that you may need for work

Glue gun and glue gun refills. This is a very convenient tool that makes decorating work much easier. You can use a gun to glue anything to the base: twigs, herbs, flowers, fabric, paper, wooden elements, etc.

Attention! Take precautions when working with a glue gun.

Wire. A stiffer wire is used to create a base, a softer one (wire that is used in beading or floral) is used to attach decorative elements to the base.

Floral tape in various colors. This is a thin elastic tape in a reel with a slight adhesive effect. The tape is used in various types of creativity: in quilling (paper rolling), in making flowers on wire, candy trees, beaded jewelry, etc. When using the floral tape, you should stretch it a little so that it sticks better to the stem. Under the influence of the warmth of your hands, the tape exhibits adhesive properties; it seems to stick to the surface. With its help, it is convenient to tie herbs, cereals, flowers, etc. into bunches.

Fishing line. It can be used to tie twigs into a wreath; in this case, it will be practically invisible, which means the wreath will look more aesthetically pleasing.

Household superglue for gluing small elements, such as rhinestones or beads.

Wire cutters.
