Spider Cases: A Marvel's Spider-Man Review. Spider-Man review on PS4 - The first blockbuster of the Marvel video game universe Not without cons, of course

Everyone knows how Spider-Man appeared. Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider. After that, he discovered new abilities in himself. Then his uncle Ben dies and he decides to start fighting criminals on his own, engaging in battles with villains. Most of the developers use this period of the hero's life for games. However, the last part, based on comics, allows you to get acquainted with the "adult" Spider. Today you have the opportunity to read the review.

The protagonist of Marvel's Spider-Man turned out to be an experienced fighter fighting for his idea, because he understands the burden of responsibility that lies on him. His relationship with the rest of the characters turned out to be an important component of the gameplay. new game often you have to play for other heroes in order to cover the events of the storyline as best as possible.

Game plot "Spider-Man 2018"

For the plot of the last part of Spiderman, the 3rd volume of the Amazing Spider-Man comics from Dan Slott, who at the same time developed the novelty script, was taken. His aunt works at a homeless shelter run by mysterious businessman Martin Lee (antagonist). Needless to say, Insomniac used this line as a starting point, since there are several directions for the development of events. And all this is at the discretion of the player.

Gamers will need to visit all the nooks and crannies of the open world, constantly listen to Parker's secret thoughts, talk with other characters and engage in science research. In addition, the developers have provided the opportunity to play as Mary Jane, who is investigating. Missions with her participation are held in stealth mode. In addition, the heroine also develops her skills and as you progress, it will become more and more interesting to play for her. Moreover, the gradual disclosure of the sides of the girl's personality makes the game as a whole multifaceted.

The narrative in the project played almost the most important role. Due to certain events, the denouement can completely change, and the actions of the participants have various consequences, seriously affecting the further gameplay. For example, in the end, Spider-Man will need to be in several different locations and the ending depends on his choice. Also, the creators have added several situations where even his unique abilities will not help the main character.

Game process

The authors of the project have set a huge bar for the campaign, but this is not observed in the side tasks. The superhero will have the opportunity to show his skills, the art of combat and the skill of covert movement. so, he will need to catch pigeons, save classified information or stabilize the pressure of a gas pipeline. It looks amazing, because in the story he needs to solve more important problems. In any case, such tasks are also important, as they provide an opportunity to relax after difficult missions.
As he progresses through the game, Spiderman levels up by earning tokens to purchase costumes, upgrades, or gadgets.

Probably the most interesting are the “challenge missions”, where you need to improve your records in order to mine tokens.
An incomprehensible element may seem to be the condition for revealing the map using towers. Initially, Spider-Man is poorly oriented in the city where he has lived since birth. To open Manhattan, he needs to activate the towers (so you can connect to the radio waves of the police to get information about criminals).

Traveling through the city labyrinths with the help of the web is interesting and easy. It doesn't take long to master this technique. When making flights, the player should take into account the terrain (Central Park or the skyscrapers of Manhattan). Those who wish can pump Peter up and perform long jumps, allowing you to get into hard-to-reach terrain, get to know the location in detail, or unexpectedly meet opponents. The animation of movements, effects and the speed of movement of Parker are admirable. Most often it looks unusually colorful. A flight slowdown feature is available to allow the player to properly web for the next prop.

Combat system

The battles here are in many ways reminiscent of The Arkham Asylum, where the protagonist can destroy a crowd of opponents at the same time. Here you will meet enemies that can disable the Spider with a couple of blows. So before the start of the battle, you should search in detail in the world for the necessary gadgets or learn new skills. Fighting, Parker needs to use different techniques, perform combinations and use superpowers. The creators did not forget to add a series of strikes to end the battle, so any collision looks like the first time.

The bosses are also beautifully designed, and the confrontation with them is more like chaos. To save your life from the very beginning, you will need to move more and look out for weak points of enemies. Mostly though, they are easy to find. In other words, the game was able to replicate Spiderman's fighting skills as appropriately as possible. He will have to win with cunning and agility instead of brute force.

Conclusion

Although some flaws were found here, the Insomniac project is the best transfer of the comic to gaming screens today. The authors were able to work out well the personality and behavior of Peter Parker, as well as his friends. This allows you to further reveal the storyline.

Fans will love the opportunity to play multiple missions as the rest of the New Yorkers, not just Parker. In addition to boss encounters, there's a big city to explore, fantastic skyscraper flights, an engaging campaign, and lots of fun and interesting side missions. Even those who are skeptical about the game based on comics, the project is capable of capturing head over heels.

In 2016, it was reported that Insomniac Games was creating a PS4 exclusive for Sony about Spider-Man. The news was taken very skeptically, because in the developer's arsenal of worthy projects, only Ratchet & Clank can be noted, although it is far from the AAA level. In addition, all previous parts about a superhero with a bite of a spider were released by Activision, and Spider-Man (2018) is a kind of reboot of the series and a start for new cool stories about heroes. Will the studio be able to meet the expectations of millions of gamers?
It turned out that the authors of the game decided not to reinvent the wheel in order to reduce the chances of a failed release. They just took the best elements from other games in the genre, polished them up, plus drew a huge New York City with tall skyscrapers and tons of secrets for Marvel fans. This is enough to make you squeal with delight while flying on the web and laugh heartily at the protagonist's barbs. We don't need more.

Plot

All games about Spider-Man can be divided into two types - projects with their own plot and those made on the basis of the script for the film. Unfortunately, the developers have never been able to implement something worthy based on the MCU. There are two reasons for that. The first is that first the movie is released, which the fans immediately watch, and only then can you go through the game itself. There simply cannot be any dramaturgy or unexpected ending in a video game, because the user already knows the outcome of all the villains. This means that you need to lure a gamer with an exciting gameplay, so that he does not think about the history already studied.

But here the second problem appears - they created games based on films with great haste, without fire in the eyes and the desire to change the industry. The developers just wanted to cash in on the fans who wanted more after the film's release. No one puzzled over new mechanics, complex tasks, an open world or graphics, and that's what turned out to be absolute mediocrity. Games with an original plot written specifically for this project, on the contrary, turned out to be very original, cool and bright. Fortunately, Spider-Man (2018) was made as a standalone product.

The writers of the game decided to create a story that is part of the Marvel universe, but it is sort of taken out of context. That is, we are given a single player campaign with Spider-Man and his dangerous opponents, but this is not a continuation of someone else's story, not part of the Avengers. The storyline is a completely unique Peter Parker story, and it's very inspiring. If you do not read some spoiler, then the user will not know about the fate of the protagonist until the very end, and there is also very little information about opponents. You don't even know who the main villain is here!

There are a lot of opponents here, you have already seen them all and know if you watched movies or read comics, but we are promised that it will not be boring. All pests have created a unique character, emotions and motives, so that you do not think that this has all happened before. The villains remain bloodthirsty, vengeful and want to hit, but they are not a rough copy of themselves from other games or films. This also bore fruit - everyone wants to study the history, learn something new, understand the enemy. We will not talk about the plot itself and the key moments of the events, so as not to spoil your impression. But, believe me, screenwriters do not get paid in vain. And best of all, you don't have to be a Marvel movie connoisseur to understand what's going on.

Traveling around the world

Even at the time the first trailer appeared, it was clear that the developers had created a huge open world through which we would move on the web. Not all Spider-Man games have implemented this element adequately. In some parts, for example, the hero could cling to the sky with a web, while the surrounding buildings were five stories high. It looked very strange, but I had to put up with such a shortcoming. Now the creators of the project had every opportunity to create the right city and they succeeded - buildings of enormous height allow us to use the web as efficiently as possible.

The city's large size and day-night cycles open up plenty of space for travel and relaxation. If you are tired of going through the storyline, although it can get boring, then just go on a journey. Jumping from high-rise to high-rise is very pleasant and there is a feeling that you are really there. The character has well-developed body physics, so that his somersaults on the web look as realistic as possible. Separately, it is worth praising the creators of the product for the sounds that accompany the character while traveling. The rumble of the metropolis, the noise and wind in the ears at high speed - all this only immerses the player more into the atmosphere of incredible jumps.

True, it was not without some shortcomings. There were screenshots on the net with all sorts of caches, which, as many thought, you would need to look for yourself. Just imagine the complexity of such an activity - a huge city with a mass of skyscrapers and secluded places will not allow you to find all the items in a couple of hours. However, the developers decided otherwise. You will need to find transmitters located on the territory of New York, and then hack them. Everything, now all caches and missions are marked on the map.

This cannot be called a big drawback, because, probably, without such transmitters, the search for all objects would become an impossible task. On the other hand, caches are not a key moment in the passage of the plot, because the items found do not give the hero anything. This is only an achievement, which will then be displayed in the profile. The story has passed and you can spend dozens of hours around the city in search of all the things you need for Platinum. But the trips themselves are implemented here for five plus, players have never received such an amount of pleasure and adrenaline from jumping between skyscrapers.

The nitpicking of the Western media (and domestic ones too) to the "population" of the virtual world turned out to be not entirely clear. People walk on the streets, they talk, look at their phones, take pictures of friends, chat and drink drinks in cafes. Cars (of different brands, colors and sizes) drive along the roads, helicopters sometimes fly in the air. A full-fledged city where virtual life, diverse and exciting, takes place without your participation. People on the streets noisily greet the hero, you can approach a random passer-by and give a five, take a picture or just say hello. This is not a GTA V level where you can fight passers-by or steal a car, but we doubt that fans of the iconic comic book hero were expecting anything like that.

Missions

All tasks in the game can be divided into main (plot) and side. Let's start with sidequests, of which there are not so many here, but they won't let us get bored between fights with bosses either. There is nothing surprising in the secondary tasks, as expected. You need to get from one part of the city to another, activate something or beat the bandits, and then get somewhere else and repeat the procedure there. A little more than a dozen really interesting tasks of the second plan turned out to be, the rest look primitive. But, they fulfill their task - the player between important meetings with the main evil can be distracted by more trivial missions.

The story missions are much more elaborate. There are no uniform requirements to clear locations (well, practically), and the writers clearly put a ton of effort into not repeating themselves. There will be quests to find the next enemy in order to get the necessary information from him, there will be stealth missions, mass brawls, robberies and even escapes under the influence of drugs. The storyline stretches for a good 20 hours, but all this time you will be surprised and amazed, thanks to which the passage goes unnoticed. You don’t even need to motivate yourself - you want to go in and go through a couple more quests to find out even more interesting things.

Separately, it is worth praising the creators of quests for the opportunity to play not only as a superhero. Sometimes we are given under the control of the most ordinary Peter Parker, who goes to his aunt in a rehabilitation center, communicates with ex-girlfriend and performs other household tasks. There is even a task in which we control Mary Jane herself, and the Spider only helps us to deactivate enemies. Such a variety of gameplay mechanics will not leave you indifferent. For the first time in the series, there is a feeling that our hero is an ordinary guy who, by the will of fate, has become a thunderstorm of the underworld. And he has problems like everyone else. Especially with personal life.

Combat system

Battles with bosses or bandits on the streets turned out to be as active as one can imagine. Our superhero does not stand still at all - he needs to constantly dodge attacks, move out of the line of fire, jump on opponents and shoot webs in response. A fight with five to ten enemies will take you a couple of minutes of real time, during which you will have time to press the jump and attack key a hundred times, if not more. The thing is that our character, in fact, does not block attacks. This was done for the sake of realism, because in the films Spider-Man also did not jump with his body on bullets, he does not have an iron suit or something like that for this.

Accordingly, in a hand-to-hand fight, you can block the enemy’s attack, and then beat him unconscious with your fists and legs. In a fight against automatic rifles or missiles, there are no blocks, you need to dodge and run away in order to strike back later. Implemented dodges are very cool and with a large set of variations. The hero can simply jump away from the projectile, can slip under the bandit's feet and strike from behind, or fly away on a web. It all depends on your imagination and ability to properly use the surrounding location.

After the first trailers of the game, many gamers were worried that the developers would focus on stealth and there would be no normal cuts with dozens of enemies. Fortunately, the stealth missions did not go beyond the videos and in real gameplay you need to fight literally constantly, and the number of enemies is gradually increasing. In small spaces, the brawl takes place in a jump-hit-jump-hit style. Your hero moves from enemy to enemy until he clears the location. In open locations, you can climb up and jump on a target, you can tie bandits to walls with cobwebs, and so on.

Interaction with the surrounding worlds during a fight plays a very important role. You can throw something at the enemy, you can tear off the door from the car, spin it and send it straight to the boss. You can push the enemies with their foreheads, if you turn a tricky combination with an adhesive, or you can spin and throw the villain himself into the distance. Boss fights are generally interesting, because the leaders have their own special types of attacks, unique animations and tactics that you need to get used to in order to win. The combat is very similar to the latest parts of Batman, only there are fewer stealth tactics, no tactical planning at all, but there is a web and a lot of various auxiliary gadgets.

Graphic arts

Quite often, the graphics in trailers are very different from what gamers see in the release version of the game. A similar situation happened with this project. The cutscenes showing the city, character and location turned out to be more beautiful than the actual graphics. More precisely, so many thought - just a couple of days before the release, screenshots appeared on the network, allegedly taken during the passage of the storyline. There it was noticeable that the back of the main character consists of a dozen polygons and resembles the graphics of 2008. It is very good that the community was worried in vain - the picture in the new Spider-Man is incredibly attractive.

Let's start with the fact that the graphics downgrade, as many thought, did not happen, the developers just removed puddles in some locations. They have already become a meme, because literally every second journalist mentioned the missing puddles in the news and reviews. In all other respects, the visual component of the game will please even the most inveterate fans of finding fault with the picture on the screen. The detailing of absolutely everything in the plot tasks is generally amazing - the designers drew everything, right down to the buttons on the jacket of the protagonist's aunt. Locations, effects, animations and enemies look as realistic as possible.

The city itself was also made attractive and amazing, although here the detailing noticeably loses to key locations and characters. For example, if you look into the windows of office buildings, you will notice exactly the same little rooms. The creators of the product just drew one office space, then copied it and scattered almost all over New York. The same goes for the "lower" part of the city - the streets, passers-by and cars look neat, but without frills. It is good that we will descend to the ground extremely rarely. This is a game about Spider-Man, why even stand with your feet on the pavement?

Separately, we need to talk about water, because it is a frequent visitor here and looks lovely. The puddles, damn it, really work like a mirror and you can find some really cool reflections of the neon signs at night. During the day, by the way, there is also something to see - spilled water in the middle of the street looks almost like a real one. And the largest "puddle" around Manhattan reflects the sun's rays in such a stylish way and splashes around the buoys that even The Crew 2's water surface loses. The ocean was painted more than adequately, although it is present here simply for the entourage. We don't have to swim or sail.

We have already said that the most important component of this game is the combat mechanics, when the Spidey directly maneuvers between enemies, dodges and strikes back. Here, the designers also worked hard - the effects of impacts, explosions and shots bring aesthetic pleasure even if you are hit. The combat system itself is very active and you simply won’t have time to contemplate the surrounding beauties, but it’s nice to fight when everything around crumbles and breaks with realistic effects and animations. If you like games for graphics, then this project will definitely please your eyes.

Weak spots

The only drawback of the project is the same type of tasks that will be found everywhere. It all starts with boring side quests, where you have to catch up with the car of the robbers, beat them up and hand them over to the cops, or clear the outpost from the bandits. The gamer needs to furiously press the buttons for five to ten minutes in order to pile on the villains, after which they give us some bonuses and send us back to such events. Only a few quests, not counting the story ones, are really well designed and look exciting.

The same can be said about collecting. Finding all Parker's caches is not very difficult, but the towers will point to them, plus the hero himself, after discovering the cache, will tell something interesting about his past. Tons of Easter eggs, just the way we like it. But the rest of the tasks, like photographing sights or finding hidden cats from the heroine from the future DLC, are very boring, they greatly slow down the pace of the story. I don’t want to yawn or leave the game, but after dizzying chases, I don’t really want to sit and look out for a small cat through the camera lens.

Result: 9/10

Insomniac Games has managed to make the best Spider-Man game ever. Yes, it sounds too pompous and too loud, but that's the way it is. There were decent parts in the series that brought pleasure to the fans, but they were not even close to this one. By the way, foreign gamers have a product called Marvel's Spider-Man, while we decided to reduce our belonging to the Marvel universe. But, this is not so important. The main thing is that the developers were able to implement absolutely all aspects of the game at a very, very decent level, which no one has been able to before.

The plot is well written about an adult Peter Parker, who lives an ordinary life, communicates with an ex-girlfriend and tries to make friends, helps his aunt and works. He has to constantly look for a compromise between saving ordinary people and household chores, because of which the gamer directly feels his remorse. Romantic dinner with an ex? No, we will not reach romance, because sirens are already screeching outside the window and we urgently need to run to the rescue. It's nice to see a real hero.

Gameplay elements have also been worked out and polished. The web-based city traversal and combat will have you digging into your gamepad every time you need to get somewhere and take on the bad guys. During the passage, the author of the review did not use fast travel at all. Why is it needed if you can press a couple of buttons on the gamepad and go on an exciting tour between skyscrapers? Fights generally go at a crazy pace, especially if you play on a high difficulty level. Our hero dies from a couple of accurate shots, so it's better not to stand still.

We add chic graphic and audio components to this cocktail. We have already talked about the picture, it is beautiful, and they also worked on the sounds here. Slaps during a fistfight, loud hits with barrels at enemies, the rustle of air in the ears during a dizzying jump from a skyscraper - all this penetrates the gamer, forcing him to empathize and feel the character. What is the track at the beginning of the storyline, written specifically for this game!

Even if you put aside emotions and look at Spider-Man with the eyes of a pedant, then the sensations are also not bad. Console games are expensive, you want to get the maximum pleasure from the purchased product and spend more hours in front of the screen. The storyline of Spider-Man takes about 20 hours, if you spend time on all secondary quests, it will be 30-40 hours. For comparison - you will pass in 6-8 hours. So the novelty may not be worthy of the title of the game of the year, but it is clearly a worthy exclusive and for sure Best game throughout the existence of the character.

Peculiarities:

  • the coolest flights around the city on the web;
  • detailed drawing of New York;
  • dozens of Easter eggs from the Marvel universe;
  • beautiful graphics;
  • original plot;
  • clear and convenient management;
  • dizzying combat mechanics;
  • a lot of costumes;
  • 30 hours of gameplay at least.
May not like:
  • many similar sidequests;
  • there is no strength to wait for the continuation;
  • you can easily break the gamepad in a fight on hard difficulty.

The game about Spider-Man has been asking for a long time. First, why not follow the beaten path of Rocksteady Studios and make a modern full-fledged project in the Marvel universe. Secondly, when looking closely at the now popular characters, Peter Parker looks like the most winning option as the hero of a new game franchise.

On paper, Spider-Man from Insomniac Games is quite a regular superhero action game. Small open world, lots of activities, collectibles and secondary characters. All according to the precepts of the Arkham series.

Only after a personal acquaintance with a friendly neighbor can one understand that all comparisons with Batman are superfluous. Of course, there are points of contact and they cannot be avoided, but their approach and implementation are completely different.

The game has a huge number of references to Parker's past, familiar characters and many cameos, familiar places or even scenes.

Game Peter Parker has been a superhero and a favorite of the public for eight years now. At the same time, he works in a research laboratory, helps Aunt May take care of those in need, and builds relationships with Mary Jane. An ordinary guy, if not for the Spider-Man costume and deadly enemies.

After Peter sends Wilson Fisk, the local crime boss, to jail in the prologue, chaos erupts in the city. A new gang appears on the streets, which was waiting for the right moment, and Parker has to save New York again. However, you also need to find time for pressing problems. Don't forget about Aunt May and Mary Jane.

Parker's main occupation, along with acrobatic scuffle, is moving around the city and generally above the ground. And it became the main feature of the game. The mechanics of flying over dense New York traffic is excellent. At first it seems uncomfortable and strange, but after a couple of hours it is brought to automatism. There is a sense of rhythm and an understanding at what point you need to release the web, and when it is better to accelerate with a hook on the neighboring ledge. And the brain already calculates the route 3-4 steps ahead.

When Parker overcomes tens of meters from one skyscraper to another in a few seconds, it really takes your breath away.

The combat system is similar to Rocksteady's Batman, but presented from a different angle. Here you do not need to follow the indicators over the enemies - all the attention is on the main character. At the right moment, "Spider Sense" is triggered and it becomes possible to counterattack. Parker only dodges and can respond with a cobweb in the face, but you have to attack in response yourself. Thanks to this, the battles are full of dynamics and there is a choice between a retaliatory attack or evasion with a further change in the battle vector.

Encounters with the enemy are very variable: to attack head-on, dodging in time, you can transfer the fight to a horizontal plane, throw enemies into the air and strike there. It's also fun to spin around the enemies on the web and take out everyone in turn. Various gadgets and costume functions will also help to diversify the fights, and if you learn how to use everything organically and at once, then you get pleasure from every even a small skirmish. For example, a burst of spider ejectors will bind the enemy, a sticky web grenade will neutralize several opponents at once. Suits can summon doppelgangers, call for drone help, or stun enemies with rock music.

Visually, there are no complaints about the game. Shadows, reflections, lighting, cutscenes, sunsets and sunrises look dizzying. Dynamic gameplay and fast flights between skyscrapers only enhance the effect. In 40 hours of play, not a single broken animation or other bug. Only going down to the streets of the city, the euphoria slightly disappears. Too many badly drawn twins live in New York.

It's frustrating that the world in Spider-Man only pretends to be alive. Although the weather and time of day change, they are strictly tied to the current task. If it should rain between quests, it will continue until the next mission is completed. The same applies to the time of day. You can change the weather after passing manually. And that breaks the immersion a little.

A good half of the missions end with the words of Spider-Man “I completely forgot about the city! It's time to take care of urgent matters, ”and an inscription appears, insisting on the need to explore the world. Spider-Man encourages you to complete side quests and gain additional experience, but this is not justified either in terms of plot or in terms of game design. The amount of experience and upgrade points received is enough to complete the game without additional tasks. Such a brake in the rapid development of the plot is somewhat annoying.

The pumping itself is not distinguished by something special. There are three branches: attack, abilities and gadgets. In addition, each suit has an ability that can be used on others. Gadgets can also be upgraded with standard radius and charge upgrades.

There is always something to do in the game. From simply navigating the web that you can do endlessly, to rescuing citizens from hooligans, preventing theft or catching robbers. All this is either with cinematic inserts, or with beautiful fights and acrobatics. There are also towers here, for the activation of which you need to solve a simple puzzle, and peculiar outposts, and a paradise for those who like to collect everything on the map - Parker's hidden backpacks and lost comrade pigeons.

because of a large number activities, it may seem that in the game you need to grind a lot, collect collectibles and do other monotonous things. However, the magic of Spider-Man is such that doing it is anything but boring. And I want to come back to finish or finish collecting something more and more.

Sometimes Spider-Man is very similar to Arkham.

It's very easy to emotionally call Spider-Man 2018 the perfect superhero game. It does not allow common sense. Too many elements have already been met somewhere, and the plot is predictable, and the main twist is already clear in the middle of the story. The spider will remain in memory for a long time thanks to the excellent performance, picture quality and the players who are hungry for their favorite hero.

Spider-Man by Insomniac Games may not be the game of the year, but it certainly is the best superhero game ever. This is not a particularly outstanding game, but in a very beautiful and expensive wrapper. The developers managed to translate not the newest ideas into an excellent symbiosis of mechanics, dynamics and sensations. Peter Parker clearly deserved it.

We take a closer look at the most expensive project in Insomniac Games' career

Send

He skillfully juggles with a set of familiar elements that we have met more than once in other games, but he does it so meticulously that you don’t want to reproach the authors for the lack of fresh ideas at all. It is not for nothing that the popular proverb says that everything new is just a well-forgotten old.

But, no matter how strange it may sound, I want to start with the graphics, because it was the technical side of the project that provided it with a large-scale hype from the moment of the first presentation. Of course, some immediately started screaming. "You're all lying!" and talk about staged prerenders. Later technomaniacs from Digital Foundry studied the visuals and concluded that the game set a new standard for the industry. Of course, in some places they still went too far, and the project is still far from the level of the top CGI.

On the other hand, here we have the most beautiful implementation of the open world in games with a modern setting. Dozens of extras, cars and, of course, huge buildings that are clearly visible even beyond the horizon can easily fit in one frame. There are no texture loadings and objects emerging from the air, although hidden loadings still take place. This is evidenced by the ability to quickly travel by metro - here we have to look at the loading screen for about 15-20 seconds. However, the developers did not lie when they spoke in an interview about the wonders of optimization: even on a normal PS4 the game most of the time demonstrates a stable 30 frames per second and the smoothest possible picture.

In some places, however, I had to make concessions to obsolete hardware. And when the camera takes a close-up, the imperfection of some models and pixel shadows immediately catches the eye. This is, perhaps, the very minimum that could be paid for the implementation of a seamless open world with such and such graphic bells and whistles. After all, the cut scenes in the game flow so smoothly into the gameplay that gaping and taking the gamepad in hand only after a couple of missed hits is quite common.

To match all this visual feast - a great implementation of acrobatics and the combat system. What Spider used to do only in films or staged commercials is now allowed to be done by you. You can run along the walls of buildings, and from most objects you can push off, giving the hero a truly frenzied inertia. Toward the end of the first third, Parker will learn how to twist somersaults in the air, and from that moment on, the gameplay will turn into a kind of circus show.

Skirmishes with enemies - a separate song. Of course, it was not without the ubiquitous stealth, and sometimes the game itself will require you to carefully eliminate enemies due to the specifics of the missions. However, most of the time you still have to openly knead your fists on other people's jaws, and at such moments you want to joyfully clap your hands. Literally with a couple of clicks, the hero slaps one robber from the air, immobilizes another with a web, and then, deftly dodging an oncoming blow, slips between the legs of a third and hits him on the back of the head. By the way, very good decision for brawls with "cheaters" who are used to sitting in a block or hiding behind a shield.

The challenge turned out to be very exciting. The local incarnation of the Spider is no match for any Hulk, so the hero can easily glue flippers after two or three well-aimed hits from a firearm. Especially large individuals cannot be bludgeoned openly: first you need to immobilize the enemy with the help of a web. Also, enemies always have a significant advantage in numbers.

What can Parker oppose to this? First of all, dexterity. Almost any attack or shot can be avoided by pressing one button in time. Calculating the timing for performing a graceful somersault is not difficult at all. You can also use objects scattered here and there - sometimes they can provide unbearable help in an unequal battle. Especially if it's an electrical panel or an enemy grenade.

Another pitfall could be the implementation of an open world, to which almost all the authors of the early "Spiders" approached with the utmost negligence. The main "timekillers" are the prevention of crimes, chasing cars and rescuing people who got into an accident. And not to say that this whole trivial set somehow quickly becomes boring. On the contrary, with such amazing graphics and a dynamic combat system, you want to cuff the criminals over and over again. Fortunately, all your work will be rewarded with experience points and other bonuses that open access to leveling up the hero and buying new costumes. The latter promise Parker sets of exclusive skills.

As for large-scale side quests, which will be around a dozen or one and a half throughout the game, we do not recommend ignoring them - in terms of fascination, they can sometimes give odds even to story missions. The chase for pigeons is especially memorable, one of which stole a flash drive with important data. Given the absurdity of the situation and the hero's own hilarious comments, we naturally failed several attempts to catch up with the feathered thieves. Because it was simply impossible not to laugh in such a situation. In general, the Spider is true to his canons - he likes to soak a joke even during hot fights. Not to say that he always does it well, but he still sets a positive attitude. And even Russian dubbing does not interfere: for once it turned out to be quite pleasant.

Fans with a magnifying glass to inspect each bush will also have a place to roam. A huge number of various objects are scattered around the city, about each of which Parker will have something to tell after finding. True, with this level of detail and the general scale of the city, finding at least a dozen satchels without clues will be even more difficult than packages in a mossy one. Naturally, the authors took this moment into account, so it will be enough for adherents of easy ways to hack a few radio towers, after which the corresponding area of the map will be littered with beacons. And there is a keen eye to help you. Or spider sense, which allows you to scan the area for enemies and valuable loot.

The plot came out quite in the spirit of the universe. As before, Spider is torn between scientific work and saving citizens, while trying to mend his relationship with MJ. And if earlier Parker's passion was basically just a burden, always getting into some kind of trouble, now she is one of the most important and interesting characters. The only pity is that he can’t fight, so all the missions with the participation of the heroine are designed in the vein of stealth. Of course, there are a few twists here, although anyone with an above-average IQ will predict what will happen long before the game itself lays all the cards on the table. Still, we have a comic book come to life with all the consequences, and it’s simply stupid to demand Agatha Christie-level intricacies from it. Did Insomniac Games manage to make our dreams come true and create the best Spider game? In terms of historical value, perhaps not. Still, the 2000 model looked much more innovative for its time. But do not forget that at that time the games still had something to strive for, and with the current development of the industry, it becomes more and more difficult to surprise each time.

Carefully collected all the best practices of its predecessors and made them work as they should, it still surprises. It's one of the most beautiful games to date, a pleasure to play from start to finish, and one of Spidey's best gaming incarnations.

In our opinion, this game is worth every ruble spent. Fly right at the start or wait for sales?

Our review of the main PS4 exclusive of the fall

Gambling https://www.site/ https://www.site/

When was the last time you saw a really good Spider-Man game? No, really. When? More than ten years ago, when somewhere they got a blank with Ultimate Spider-Man and she became everything you could talk about for the next two weeks? Surprise: even the press at one time awarded her the unhonorary title of “middling” and quickly forgot.

Some might even say that good There were no igroizations of the Spider since the first half of the 2000s. To some extent, this is true. For a decade and a half, the industry has repeatedly tried to repeat the success of the very first hits from Neversoft and Treyarch. Without amusing experiments, like Shattered Dimensions, not done, but not one of them fired.

And the casket was just opening all this time. The audience goes not for innovative ideas and "whistles", but for quality. And Marvel's Spider-Man is a clear example of this.

Back to the roots

I don’t see the point in dragging and floridly summing up the result, which many have already guessed from the moment the first trailers appeared. brainchild Insomniac Games- the best game about Spider-Man in the history of the existence of the character. At the same time, Marvel's Spider-Man is one of the most secondary products devoid of a creative spark. recent years. And I say this without a hint of contempt, not like, um, last time.

I know it's weird. Just listen.

Imagine standard (not necessarily superhero) action in an open world. No, not this one. Even more standard, yes. Literally basic. I am sure that you will not hesitate to name from the heels of amazing chips that have stuck to the genre like ticks.

Let's see... Beautiful and gorgeously detailed, but "plastic" world? Cleansing countless "forts" filled to the brim with enemies? Dozens of almost useless collectibles that are just needed "to be"? Combat that evokes thoughts of some game about a costumed crime fighter?

Okay, jokes aside. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that Insomniac Games magnum opus has any all the above. Including unforgettable towers "a la Ubisoft”, over which even the French themselves have already managed to laugh. I won't lie if I say that you've played Marvel's Spider-Man many, many, many times, just before. main character was dressed up as a bat, not a spider.

Mimicry

Spiderman's new adventures are really tangibly based on experiments Rocksteady with a series Batman: Arkham. Without fanaticism, but sometimes it comes to the ridiculous: a tiny mini-game with opening locks (needed to “open” towers) is copied clean from Arkham Asylum. Since this is the developers' largest project to date, they decided not to fix what works, and without unnecessary gestures adapted the time-tested finds to the setting and character.

The most feared among the fans of the Spider was the combat. Fortunately, "Batman's" stealth has been so pressed only in trailers. There are situations from the category of "20 armed gopniks, 1 room", but they do not overload the gameplay. Combat in Marvel's Spider-Man does not focus on long planning, but on Parker's intuitive improvisation and dexterity.

By combining melee combat, web tricks and gadgets, in just a couple of hours (thanks to responsive controls) you can learn how to do outrageously spectacular things. It's great when fights take place at different heights: say, at a construction site or in a cluster of skyscrapers. Just dodge in time and rush from bandyuk to bandyuk, scattering "gifts" like spider drones, web bombs and mini jet engines that lift the target into the air.

Does the combat system work? And how. Smoothly, without a knot and a hitch. You can only scold the developers for the tasteless (read, too simple) design of the bosses. My favorite feature in the game is the ability to web some items and throw them. Garbage cans, wooden pallets, car doors, transformers... Even enemies can be pushed head-on if you first braid them. It's fun. Silly but fun. Once I snatched a pistol from the hands of another criminal, spun it like a hero and threw it back - right in the forehead of the owner. It would seem a trifle, but it was funny to tears.

Fly fly!

The second great feature, indirectly related to the battles, is web flying. In short: they are awesome. Insomniac Games have tried to ensure that the player can almost physically feel the weight, dynamics and speed of the Spider. The roar of the wind in your ears (especially with headphones), the rumble of car traffic and sirens, the rustle of leaves if you fly right over the crown of a tree, camera angles, animation - everything is on top. Having already gone through the story, I restarted the game several times, just to cut through Manhattan a little more - without any fights and tasks. Maneuvering between skyscrapers, finding new, non-obvious ways, shortcuts and ways to move even faster is a game within a game.

Let me clarify one point. Navigating over Manhattan is pure pleasure. But the island itself... The amount of detail and proximity to the prototype shows that the studio has invested a lot of effort. According to the developers themselves, they thought of Manhattan more as a character than as a location. And it's noticeable. It convincingly imitates the life of pedestrians minding their own business, small shops, graffiti and real historical places. But this, alas, does not hide well the fact that there is no need to explore all these beauties, drawn with colossal diligence.

There is not a single secret in the whole city that would be waiting for Parker in a secluded corner. The city is empty. There is nothing to look for in Marvel's Spider-Man, despite the game's regular (no, really, right here with a sign on the screen) calls for the game to "explore the city and improve abilities." It does not contain research as such. Each open "tower" automatically marks all collectibles and tasks in the area. It remains just to reach the point and take your prize - and this, let's say, is not that exciting.

The open world is so empty that your main leisure time is story missions and actual navigation from point A to point B on the web. No, you can't formally say that there's nothing to do in Marvel's Spider-Man. There is something. It's just that classes are terribly trivial. Cleared one bandit "fort" - cleared them all. Same with chasing pigeons (don't ask) riddles Black Cat (herself Black Cat will be brought in DLC) and tests. There are also full-fledged side quests, but there are a little more than a dozen of them, and, despite some good ideas in places, only a couple are catchy.

However, completely ignoring this gentleman's set of nonsense will not work either! For each completed activity, you get tokens that go towards upgrading gadgets and new spider suits. In fact, this is quite an elegant design decision: the game encourages self-activity and the study of additional content.

Too bad there is no content. Only the most boring, largely archaic ideas.

We'll be right back

At first, Marvel's Spider-Man masterfully suppresses any skepticism. She is so neat, so carefully filed, that at first there is nothing to cling to. Everything played so smoothly and without problems (apart from the empty sandbox) that at times I forgot about the upcoming review. I didn’t have time to take screenshots in battles, because I didn’t want to be distracted. He beat men in the faces, chased pigeons and decided puzzles as if on autopilot, knowing every second perfectly well that he had already seen it all. I was more likely to consume enjoyable content than interact with the game.

“And the developers did a good job of building other people's ideas,” I thought. “I wonder when they will show something of their own, something really, without reservation, cool?” But they didn't show. The Big Bang didn't happen. The Sinister Six, which Insomniac Games teased with unbearable coquetry, looked at the light for just a couple of tasks and did it with a pen. Twenty (only twenty!) hours later, the game ended with the inevitable promise of a sequel. That is, a break.

There are many questions. What was it? Silver Sable appeared in history and soon disappeared from it? "Wonderful" psychedelic boss battle straight out of Far Cry 3, seriously?! Why were all these hints of an epic, scope? Why, despite all the described problems, I still did not regret the time spent?

As soon as the news about the DLC surfaced on the Internet, everything fell into place. This project is the firstborn of the Marvel gaming universe. In other words, a typical autumn studio blockbuster in game equivalent. That's why Insomniac Games did not strain the creative vein! They needed a clear hit in the comfort zone of the widest possible range of consumers. I enjoyed Marvel's Spider-Man for exactly the same reasons that millions of people go to see Marvel movies every year.

And the game is good for exactly the same reasons. She is expensive, stylish, sometimes witty, sometimes tear-squeezing. Restrainedly pleasant, but assembled "according to GOST" by a committee of producers, and not by a team of enthusiastic designers. Her only creative ambition is to quickly entertain you without taking much time and effort, leave a fleeting aftertaste and disappear into oblivion.
