Not only has an exquisite taste, but when properly prepared, it has a very beautiful appearance. Try to surprise your guests by inviting them to taste the Greek cheese salad prepared according to our recipe.

Recipe

Preparing a Greek salad with cheese is not difficult at all. You only need to have the key components. The most important of these is the cheese made from goat's or sheep's milk - feta. Bryndza would be a good substitute. In addition, you will need: fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, bell peppers, onions (red), lemon, pitted olives, olive oil, herbs, lettuce, salt and pepper. Vegetables need to be cut beautifully and skillfully, because it depends on how the Greek salad with cheese will look. Arrange lettuce leaves on a serving plate (or the bottom of a salad bowl). Large, preferably cubes, cut tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers. Chop the onion into thin rings and place on lettuce leaves. Since the Greek salad is not tossed in this recipe, try to distribute the vegetables evenly so that they do not sit in separate piles on the plate. Add olives and cheese (feta), cut into cubes. Sprinkle salad with herbs such as parsley, basil, or cilantro. Since brynza or feta have a salty taste, it is not necessary to add additional salt to the dish. It is enough to sprinkle the Greek salad with cheese with olive oil and squeeze the juice from the lemon. Can be served at the table.

Greek salad with cheese and chicken

In addition to the traditional way of preparing salad, there are others. For example, try this chicken dish. For this you will need: table vinegar, green onions, olives, cherry tomatoes, chicken fillet, lettuce, cheese (feta), herbs, olive oil, pine nuts, pepper and salt. Boil chicken fillet. Just do it this way: pour boiling water over the chicken. This is necessary so that the proteins that float up in the form of foam are brewed inside the meat. 15 minutes for the chicken to be fully cooked will be enough. Catch the pieces from the broth and set to cool. Cut the fillet into small pieces. Put them in a salad bowl. Add chopped green onions, cheese (feta), pine nuts. In a separate bowl, mix salad dressing: salt, vinegar (2 tablespoons), pepper and oil. To facilitate the process, you can use a mixer or whisk. Cut cherry tomatoes into halves. Tear the lettuce leaves into pieces with your hands, add them to the bowl with the main products. Send olives there. They can be cut into rings. This recipe involves mixing all the ingredients, so season with vinegar sauce and mix thoroughly. Top the salad with chopped dill and onion.

Tips on how to make Greek salad the right way

Recipe with cheese or feta cheese - there is no significant difference. But in any case, the cheese must be cut correctly. Divide the piece into two halves. Cut the first one and immediately add to the rest of the ingredients. Mix everything well so that the cheese begins to envelop the rest of the vegetables. Slice the other half and arrange on top as a decoration. In addition, salad dressing should be added just before you serve the dish to the table. Now in stores there are ready-made sauces for Greek salad. With their help, you will be able to achieve a "restaurant" taste of the dish.

  • 8 - 10 pitted olives
  • lettuce
  • half of Yalta onion

Ingredients for preparing the dressing:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 5-6 green basil leaves
  • ground black pepper

It's actually very easy to prepare a Greek salad, just a lot of ingredients that you need to buy. More cooking, I would say.

Traveled through the market in the city of Saki today, looking for products for making salad. We bought everything, so feel free to proceed to its preparation.

I have brynza, today I am preparing a salad with brynza cheese. Usually I cook it myself, but since we are on vacation, we bought it here. Very delicious cheese We love to eat it with tea. How to make brynza cheese from milk, you can see in the article "How to make brynza from cow's milk". The ingredients are simple and easy to prepare, if you have not cooked, then I would recommend cooking. Recipe with step by step photos. Cheese is also perfect in Greek salad.

First we need to wash the vegetables, dry them with a paper towel, we do not need excess liquid in the salad.

I'll be making a serving of Greek salad. I really like the portioned serving of this salad. I cover the bottom of the plate with lettuce leaves, I tear some of the leaves with my hands. There is such a version that you only need to tear the salad with your hands, and not cut it with a knife.

Vegetables for salad should be cut into cubes. My tomatoes are medium. I bought pink ones. You can take red. I really like pink tomatoes because they are sweet.

I cut the tomatoes in half and then cut them into cubes. I cut the cucumbers in half lengthwise, then I cut them in half again lengthwise. Now I cut them into cubes. I also cut sweet peppers into cubes. I have green bell peppers. You can take red or yellow.

I like the cubes in the salad to be the same size, so I try to cut the vegetables into beautiful even pieces.

But we need to cut the onion into half rings. Since we are in the Crimea, I bought a Yalta sweet onion. I clean it, cut it in half, and then in half rings.

For Greek salad, you need to prepare a dressing. The dressing consists of olive oil, lemon juice, fresh basil, garlic, salt and ground black pepper.

I took green basil. It will take about 5-6 leaves. I wash them and finely chop them. I also peel a clove of garlic, crush it with a knife, and then cut it into a small cube. You can squeeze the garlic through a press. I grind with a knife.

Now I pour a couple of tablespoons of olive oil into a bowl, add a spoonful of lemon juice, salt, pepper. We mix everything. Fragrant salad dressing is ready.

I also heard that you can add a couple of mint leaves to the dressing, which you need to finely chop. With mint, the salad turns out to be very fresh and original in taste. But I myself have not tried adding mint to a Greek salad.

In the meantime, I cut the cheese into cubes. I cut it in the same cubes as cucumbers and tomatoes.

You can use feta cheese, this is for a classic Greek salad. But today I have brynza cheese. With brynza cheese, the salad is no less tasty. We also tried with Adyghe cheese. Only it must first be soaked in salt water, so it turns out tastier.

Now I put chopped cucumbers, tomatoes, sweet peppers, onions on lettuce leaves. Spread olives and pieces of brynza cheese on top.

Olives need to be pitted. And if the olives are large, then the olives can be cut in half. I have small olives, so I do not cut them, but add them whole.

Drizzle salad dressing over top. And the great thing about this salad is that you can cook it to your liking. If you like, you can cut yellow tomatoes, red and yellow peppers.

In the summer, vegetables are plentiful and at home, a Greek salad can be prepared according to your taste and desire.

The salad is ready to eat. Very satisfying, very tasty, and what a fragrant it turns out. "Summer in a bowl". In winter, it is more difficult with vegetables, they are often sold in the supermarket and what many call them “plastic”.

But in the summer you can cook a Greek salad at least every day. The main thing is to have all the ingredients for its preparation.

Plus, in summer I like light salads with original olive oil dressing. Also, at home you make a salad the way you like it and add more cheese and ingredients that you like.

Salad turns out very bright, fresh, tasty. Despite the fact that there are vegetables in the salad, it is very satisfying, and what a fragrant one it turns out.

Of course, you can double the amount of ingredients and prepare the salad in a deep bowl. Then the salad is enough for one serving. This portion of salad was enough for my husband and I for two.

Cook with pleasure. Enjoy your meal.

Greek salad with cheese - a classic recipe

In fact, the classic version of the Greek salad involves the use of soft feta cheese, which, with its delicate structure and its inherent sourness, unobtrusively emphasizes the taste of vegetables. But our chefs so often use brynza as a cheese component that many consider this option to be a classic.

Let's not be too strict about the perception of the non-standard salad, especially since with proper preparation and a skillful choice of ingredients, the result is no less attractive, and often even more interesting and seductive.

Below we will tell you how to cook a Greek cheese salad so that it can compete with the original.

Classic Greek salad with cheese - recipe

  • cheese - 150 g;
  • fresh tomatoes - 150 g;
  • fresh cucumbers - 150 g;
  • sweet bell pepper (preferably different colors) - 150 g;
  • lettuce red onion - 75 g;
  • pitted green olives - 120 g;
  • oregano - to taste;
  • dried basil - to taste;
  • lettuce leaves - to taste.

To get the best result, choose ripe tomatoes with dense pulp for the Greek salad. Cherry tomatoes will also work. Cucumbers, on the contrary, should be tender with a soft light green skin. If the skin is dark and hard, then it should certainly be peeled. Bulgarian pepper is better to take two colors, so the Greek salad will turn out much more spectacular.

So, we wash all the vegetables and be sure to dry or wipe dry. We get rid of the stalks of tomatoes, cut large fruits into cubes, about one and a half to two centimeters in size. If using cherry tomatoes, cut them in half. Cucumbers, if necessary, peel and also chop into large cubes. We get rid of the bell peppers from the seed boxes and stalks and chop the petals of the same size. We clean the salad onion and, depending on the size, chop into rings or half rings. We divide the olives into halves with a sharp knife, and cut the cheese into neat cubes.

Carefully mix all prepared vegetables in a separate bowl and spread on pre-washed, dried and laid in a salad bowl or on a dish lettuce leaves. Arrange cheese cubes on top.

Now let's prepare the dressing, which is almost the main component, and the taste of the finished dish depends on its quality. Pour olive oil into a bowl, add ground black pepper to taste, throw in oregano and dried basil and mix well. Please note that we do not add salt, as feta cheese is quite salty cheese and its taste will be quite enough for the harmony of the dish. For the same reason, we do not use lemon juice, green olives provide us with the necessary sourness.

Greek salad - recipe with olives and cheese

  • cheese - 150 g;
  • fresh tomatoes - 150 g;
  • fresh cucumbers - 150 g;
  • sweet bell pepper - 150 g;
  • lettuce red onion - 75 g;
  • black olives - 120 g;
  • extra virgin olive oil - 75 ml;
  • lemon - 1/2 pc.;
  • ground black pepper - 20 g or to taste;
  • spices - to taste;
  • basil (fresh herbs) - to taste;
  • lettuce leaves - 1 bunch of medium size.

The algorithm for preparing Greek salad according to this recipe is very similar to the previous version. Be sure to wash and dry vegetables. We clean the peppers, and if necessary, remove the peel from the cucumbers. Cut the fruits into large cubes. You can go the other way and diversify the aesthetic appearance of the salad by cutting the tomatoes into slices and the cucumbers into circles. In this case, we chop the pepper into large strips, lettuce onions into rings, and cut the pitted olives into circles.

A distinctive feature of this salad is the use of black olives, and not olives, as in the previous version. Therefore, another refueling is required. To prepare it, mix olive oil and the juice of half a small lemon, add pepper, spices to taste and throw fresh basil leaves finely chopped and pounded in a mortar. We fill our salad with the resulting mixture and serve.

Greek salad is the center of taste, health and beauty. In any cafe or restaurant, you can certainly find it on the menu. A striking feature of this dish is that all the ingredients are not crushed, but cut rather large. This feature gives the recipe a certain chic.

The Greek salad got its name due to the fact that it contains vegetables that were originally grown only in Greece (tomatoes and onions). It is worth noting that in Greece itself, the birthplace of this world-famous salad, it is called Horiatike, which in Russian means Village Salad. This is due to the fact that all the components of the dish grow in every yard and are available to every housewife at hand. Salad "Greek" and its classic recipe with cheese are known to every housewife. It is worth mentioning that in the original Greek salad is prepared with traditional Greek Feta cheese. But today this cheese can be successfully replaced with cheese without any damage to the taste and benefits of this amazing dish. Moreover, cheese is less caloric, which is a very important fact for those who follow the figure and one and a half times cheaper than Feta, which is also important.

The basis of the classic Greek salad recipe

Salad "Greek" with cheese is outrageously easy to prepare. And if the question arises of what to cook easier and faster, then you should turn your attention to this dish. Despite the fact that there are many varieties of the recipe for this dish, its main ingredients will always be red tomatoes, turnips or shallots, fresh cucumbers, olives (necessarily pitted) and sweet peppers. All these vegetables simply need to be cut into large slices and added to a Greek salad. Be sure to add feta cheese and original dressing based on vegetable oil with spices.

In various variations of the classic recipe, certain additional ingredients may be present, such as lettuce leaves, garlic, lemon, wine vinegar, and even beets. Let's go back to the gas station. This is another highlight of the Greek salad. The secret to making the dressing is quite simple. Olive oil is usually taken as the basis, but any vegetable oil (sunflower, for example) is also possible. Spices are added to the oil: oregano, thyme, dill, black pepper, you can even lemon juice. It is important not to overdo it, spices should set off the taste of the dish, and not clog it.

Cooks can experiment based on the classic recipe and add quite a variety of ingredients to the salad, such as: boiled potatoes, eggplant, various seafood, boiled or grilled meat or chicken pieces. In this performance, the dish will acquire a new sound and benefit, but it will cease to be a classic "Greek".

Legends about the origin of Greek salad

There are three legends about the appearance of this unique dish.

The first of them says that Greek salad appeared in ancient times, in Hellenistic Greece, but this is quite a fairy tale legend, since it is known that tomatoes came to Greece only in the 19th century and the Greeks did not immediately fall in love with an exotic vegetable, at first considering it poisonous.

The second legend says that this salad was invented by a Greek immigrant who lived for a long time in America. Returning to his homeland, missing his native and favorite products, he hastily chopped all the vegetables that were in large pieces, threw a handful of olives into a bowl and put a piece of Feta on top, poured everything with olive oil and enjoyed the taste. His sister, having tasted the dish, appreciated it, and at her son's wedding she treated all the guests to a new salad.

According to the third legend, Greek salad appeared to the world not so long ago, in the 60-70s. In the 20th century, the owners of taverns in Athens, barely coping with the frantic influx of tourists, tried to feed them as best they could and mixed vegetables cut in a hurry in order to have time to serve everyone. In the course were those vegetables that are always in abundance and traditional olive oil as a dressing.

  • fresh cucumbers - 400 grams,
  • sweet pepper (can be yellow to make the dish more beautiful) - 350 grams,
  • turnip onion - 150 grams,
  • olives (necessarily pitted) - 150 grams,
  • brynza cheese - 200 grams.

  • olive oil (can be sunflower) - 5 tablespoons,
  • salt to taste
  • oregano and black pepper to taste.

To garnish the dish, you will need a few washed and dried crisp green lettuce leaves.

Cooking:

  1. All vegetables should be thoroughly washed in warm water and dried by blotting with a paper towel.
  2. Coarsely chop the tomatoes (regular tomatoes can be divided into 4 parts, cherry tomatoes in half). Coarsely chop cucumbers. Put everything in a bowl.
  3. Peel and cut the pepper in half, cut into slices and send to the tomatoes and cucumbers.
  4. Cut the onion head in half and chop, or cut the whole head into rings, gut into separate rings and send to a bowl.
  5. Cut the olives into rings or simply into two halves and add to the dish.

Mix everything, now prepare the dressing. To olive (or sunflower) oil, add salt, black pepper and oregano to taste, mix and dress the salad in a bowl.

  1. Arrange lettuce leaves beautifully on a platter, and place mixed vegetables on top.
  2. Cheese cheese cut into even cubes. So that the cheese does not stick to the knife and the cubes turn out beautiful and even, you should first moisten the knife blade in warm water.
  3. Scatter the cheese cubes beautifully on top of the vegetables.
