From the barrel comes the main hose. A filter must be installed on it so that debris does not clog the system. Capillaries are fed from the main hose.

Important! A drainpipe bed is not resistant to strong gusty winds, so you should choose a place for it that is not blown from four sides by winds. Otherwise, the frame will quickly collapse, nullifying all your efforts.




A bed made from a plastic bag is another modification of vertical beds. It is extremely compact, functional and interesting in appearance. You can make such a bed in a couple of hours.

Materials for manufacturing:

  • durable polyethylene film;
  • sewing machine;
  • priming;
  • seedling.

In order for the bed to turn out to be strong, it is recommended to pay special attention to the thickness of the plastic film, which in this case will act as the "frame" of the structure. The minimum film thickness is 0.2 mm.

The process of creating a polyethylene bed




Step 1 . We cut out 2 rectangular pieces of film, the size of which corresponds to the size of the created beds. An allowance of one and a half to two centimeters should be left on each side. The recommended diameter of the beds is twenty centimeters.

Step 2. Sew the rectangles together, leaving only the top of the bag unconnected.

Step 3. We sew a handle to the future bed, the strength of which will withstand the weight of the bag filled with soil. It should also be noted that when watering, the weight will increase.

Step 4. Fill the bag with fertilized soil.

Step 5. We make horizontal cuts on the bag in increments of twenty centimeters. They are necessary in order to plant seedlings in the garden.

Step 6. We plant seedlings.

Step 7. Water the soil regularly and add the necessary fertilizers.

An integral element of each suburban area is a compost heap. This is the place where all kinds of biochemical reactions take place that ensure the creation of fertilizers.

To create fertilizers that will satisfy all the requirements for them, several key steps should be carefully considered: creating a container and directly making the compost itself correctly. Let's talk about each of them in more detail.




Stage 1. We take eight supporting posts of the same length.

Stage 2. We process the lower part of the wooden posts with engine oil or tar.

Stage 3. We dig the posts into the ground so that they are reliable and stable. If the compost bin is located next to the fence, then 4 posts (that is, one side) can be attached to the fence. This will avoid having to dig 4 holes.




Stage 4. Between each two adjacent columns we nail the crossbars in such a way that in the end we get three independent sections. Be sure to leave gaps that will serve as ventilation holes.




Stage 5. In two sections, horizontally nail the boards to half the height of the pillars. In these places, it is planned to create two small doors.




Stage 6. There will be a large door in the remaining section, so only one board should be nailed. It should be located at the very bottom in a horizontal position, that is, like a regular crossbar.

Stage 7. Install the covers. To do this, you can use one large solid board.

Stage 8. We install the doors prepared in advance.

Stage 9. We provide doors with handles and latches.

Stage 10. We process wood using special impregnations.

Stage 11. We paint the box in any color that matches the preferences.




Many gardeners mistakenly believe that any components can be dumped into the compost heap. In fact, in order to create the right biofertilizer, the “ingredients” must be carefully selected.

Among the mandatory components of the compost heap are the following components:

  • peat;
  • ash;

The suburban area is an immense testing ground for testing your ingenuity. After all, whatever you take on, wherever you turn, there is bound to be something that needs improvement. You just need to take a closer look. Or listen to your feelings.

A dream come true: we work lying down

2016 is coming to an end, and with it another summer season is leaving. But in general, for 30 years I have been living in dacha affairs, including cutting down trees and shrubs, hauling, uprooting, digging, sowing and planting, building a house, a barn, a bathhouse, greenhouses. And all these stages (as well as everything connected with them) are deposited in the memory and will remain in the soul forever. Dacha took me away from work, changed the profile of my activity, improved my health and helped reduce the number of tablets, capsules, and drops I take. I note that half of the summer period passed without a hostess - kidney disease took her life. But the love of the land and work inspires me, and I did not give up the occupation necessary for life.

Aged.

All summer residents (and not only them) know that weeds grow everywhere: both in the garden and under the bushes; and even on the tracks. It takes a lot of time and effort to destroy them, which would be worth finding best use. Old people have the hardest time, because this occupation requires work in an incline.

And one day an idea came up: instead of the usual short handle, I decided to insert a handle from a standard shovel into a stainless steel spatula.

That is, to radically lengthen the so-called gripping arm (Fig. 1). Running this innovation pretty pleased. And for more than five years now, under the bushes and in other hard-to-reach places, I have been removing weeds with such a device. And almost do without slopes! And you need to work with a spatula like this: first make sharp movements up and down, and then turn it around the longitudinal axis. The neighbors also tried to adopt my experience, they were very satisfied: a reliable and highly efficient tool. And I use the destroyed weeds either as mulch or send them to the compost bin.

Since we are talking about working under the bushes, it is impossible not to touch on the thinning of the berries (first of all, this is required for blackberries, gooseberries, currants and all sorts of hybrids with thorns). Here, after all, the problem is not only that you have to climb under them almost on all fours for fear of scratching your hands. The main thing is that during this operation you trample down the soil loosened around the bushes with your feet. And after trimming, you need to loosen everything again - double work.

And here's what I came up with. I made lattices from wooden bars, which I lay under the bushes, and then I myself lie down on them. Double benefit: I don’t tamp the soil, and I do pruning in a fairly comfortable position (looking at the bushes from the bottom up, it’s easier to understand what exactly needs to be cut).

Glass cutting tool

The second adaptation is a necessary measure during the construction of greenhouses. It's about cutting glass. Previously, I did not master this art, and I needed a lot of glass, and even different sizes. Only on the roofs it took me about 150 glasses. The use of the ruler did not justify itself. And I settled on a special marking of the board, on which I now cut glass.

I found a sheet of five-layer plywood in my attic wood dump. I marked it as shown in Fig. 2.

It turned out lined support-grid. He laid this sheet on the kitchen table. In one of the yards I found a certain structure, welded by someone from metal tubes and corners. I found a use for it too: I fixed a board on it, and I got a stand, which I place next to the “chopping” table if I need to cut a long sheet of glass.

And now specifically about the cutting process itself. As you can see in the figure, I lead the glass cutter strictly along the lines drawn on the marking board. They are greasy, clearly visible through the glass. At the same time, I hold it slightly with my left hand so that it does not move during work. There is one more useful property at my device: with its help, you can easily work with pieces of glass that have uneven edges, or, simply speaking, with a fight. I personally brought a lot of such broken glass (I'll call it a semi-finished product) from the garbage dump, which helped me save a fantastic amount of money. So, one has only to lay the semi-finished product on the markup sheet, as it immediately becomes clear what size glass can be obtained from it.

I may be asked the question: that’s how it is, of course, so, but is it still a complete hassle with broken glass, because only small fragments suitable for glazing are obtained from it? But that's just the whole point! For example, the crate of the roofs of greenhouses, into which glass is inserted, I have made with cells of a small format. D Because I remove all the glazing for the winter in order to prevent damage to it by the snow cover. Yes, and it is easier to remove small glasses, not to mention their transportation and storage.

In general, the technology I proposed is simple and accessible. Not ideal, but comfortable. You just need to learn how to use the glass cutter correctly. They need to draw lines with a decisive movement with light pressure, but without sharp fluctuations. Deviations are possible in the range of 2-4 mm, since they do not play significant role. After that, you need to move the glass from the table so that the cut off fragment (which will go to waste) is hung out.

Then with a glass cutter from the bottom of the glass sheet, lightly tap along the cut line and only after that gently but firmly press the piece to be removed with your hand. Everything - now it will easily separate.

And the last. If someone finds the process of lining a sheet of plywood too complicated and tedious, then you can simply stick graph paper on it. True, in this case, you will have to come up with protection for it, because from the constant sliding of the glass it will quickly become disheveled and the picture will lose its clarity. On the other hand, if the owner does not plan to cut a lot of glass, then maybe that's enough for him.

About optics and moles

In conclusion, I will dwell on some other issues of everyday life. Many summer residents (and not only them) fix glasses with ribbons during work. It’s convenient, of course, but the convenience is short-term, because the ribbons stretch very quickly. And, to be honest, they do not fix the glasses on the bridge of the nose very tightly, you have to constantly correct them, and according to the law of meanness at the most inconvenient moment (I know from myself).

Therefore, based on my own experience, I advise you to make fasteners not from ribbons, but from rubber strips cut from car (or, at worst, bicycle) tubes. They certainly won't stretch. The greater their width, the more convenient and reliable the glasses will be held on the head (Fig. 3). I know that some people manage to use mounts from audio headphones, but, in my opinion, this is pure foppery. Reliable fixation in any scenario will not work.

One more piece of advice. For reliable fastening of the elastic band with the frame, its ends (lugs) must be bent at a sharper angle to make hooks (Fig. 3). This is done simply. The ears are dipped in boiling water for a few seconds, and then their ends turn in the right direction.

As for the turntables, cut out of plastic bottles and designed to scare away moles, I have been convinced from my many years of experience that there is no sense in them - the sound is quiet, they give a weak vibration and cannot scare anyone. Much better are metal turntables mounted on the wall of the greenhouse. To increase reliability and wear resistance, I soldered metal tubes with a diameter of 4 mm and a length of 15-20 mm into the holes of the turntable. The noise got bigger.
