Trump's victims: how the Democratic Party is preparing for revenge. Republican candidate Donald Trump wins US presidential election

Donald Trump has become the official presidential candidate of the Republican Party. At the party convention in Cleveland, 1,604 delegates voted for him, despite the required maximum of 1,237 votes. His closest rival, Ted Cruz, received only 400 votes.

Trump's nomination was expected, although his opponents had previously harbored the hope that the billionaire would be able to "ride" the vote.

Trump arrived at the convention in Cleveland with his entire family, wife Melania and daughter Ivanka, who, competing with each other in eloquence, pronounced toasts in honor of their husband and father against the backdrop of the “Make America Great Again” campaign poster.

In one of Tuesday's highlights of the convention, the liberal The New York Times called Trump "the new Nixon." One of the largest American politicians, a friend of all kinds of "sons of bitches" of the United States and "Leonid Ilyich" Nixon is one of the most controversial figures in American politics. He resigned with a scandal after the famous Watergate story connected with wiretapping at the headquarters of the Democrats.

And if “Nixon” is practically a swear word for Democrats today, Trump aide Poul Manafort himself admitted to reporters that Trump used the provisions of Nixon’s speech in preparing for his speeches.

It seems that the use of other people's speeches is a trademark of the Trump family. Liberal media journalists, who almost did not hide their sarcastic attitude towards Trump, accused his wife Melania of plagiarism. The daughter of the former director of the Yugoslav auto repair shop copied many passages of her speech from the speech of the wife of US President Michelle Obama. She gave a speech in 2008 at the Democratic Party's election convention, in which her husband Barack Obama was nominated for president.

Representatives of the Trump campaign headquarters in response to criticism emphasized: Melania uttered "general words." That they are suspiciously similar to Michelle Obama's language is an accident, and no speechwriter will be fired because of this.

Everyone left but Trump stayed

Ohio governor John Kasik, who lost to Trump in the primaries, appeared in front of his supporters at a private party at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, where the correspondent of Gazeta.Ru also visited. Supporters greeted him with loud applause. The moderate Republican Keysick was the hope of Trump's opponents, from whose point of view the billionaire dishonors the party with populism and sweeping xenophobic statements.

Kasik smiled and held his wife's hand. He said thank you to everyone, but there was annoyance in his voice. “I knew that if I continued to campaign, I would tell people lies,” he explained to supporters of his decision to withdraw from the race early. Caseick didn't name names, but to those who gathered in the hall, everything was clear: the governor in Ohio that day was not the governor.

Despite Trump's triumph, many prominent Republican heavyweights ignored the convention, some defiantly, some citing unexpected cases in their state. None of the representatives of the Bush family attended the convention - neither the former US President George W. Bush himself, nor his brother George W. Bush, Trump's rival in the Republican race.

George W. Bush also did not attend this convention - due to his advanced age, he almost never leaves his native Texas. There was no hope of the Republicans at the congress for the "promising young man" Senator Mark Rubio, whom the party establishment put on. According to American observers, all this demonstrates a serious split in the party due to Trump's candidacy. “Even if he does not win, he has already poisoned the Republican Party,” one of the Republicans who worked in the administration of President Bush Sr. tells Gazeta.Ru without hiding his dislike. Another prominent Republican is openly sarcastic: “Trump is doing miracles, I would never have thought that I would support Clinton, the US could survive a catastrophe during foreign policy", - he said.

New Jersey Delegate Sheng Berger said he was comfortable with the fact that there were no former president Bush. “We respect the previous president, but we need to move on,” he said. Asked if he hoped relations with Russia would improve if Trump won, Berger almost screamed, “Absolutely! I think there is something called mutual respect between Putin and Trump. We must help each other."

The candidate, whose card indicated that he represented the "board of education" of several high schools in New Jersey, admitted that he likes Trump with his remarks. “This is a man who destroyed the concept of “political correctness,” he explains. “There are 90% of Trump supporters here,” Daniel Beckelman, who represents the city of New Jersey next to New York, does not hide his pride.

Friend of Blacks

On the stage of the convention, those few political heavyweights who nevertheless came to the convention to support Trump soloed. One of them was former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. “Whatever I did for New York, Donald Trump can do for America,” he said with pathos in his voice. Giuliani himself is a controversial figure; Russian-speaking New Yorkers even called him "the American Luzhkov." Giuliani has also been criticized for recently calling Black Lives Matter, a sociopolitical movement that fights against police violence against African Americans, "racist."

This topic is seriously splitting American society - some complain about the excessive brutality of the police towards blacks, others curse the criminals who kill "our guys".

This week, an African-American killer killed three police officers in Louisiana. One of those killed was himself African American. This is the second case of police killings after the events in Dallas, where five police officers were killed and nine police officers were injured at the hands of an African-American killer.

To win over African-American voters, Trump invited the famous American surgeon Ben Carson, who ran in the 2012 elections as a candidate from the Republican Party, and now actively supports Trump, to the convention. At the same time, the billionaire’s supporters believed that it was Carson, and not the little-known Indiana governor Michael Pence, that Trump would make a candidate for vice president. Carson should help Trump strengthen his position in Pennsylvania and Ohio. According to public opinion polls, not a single voter is officially going to vote for Trump. Carson admitted in an interview with Fox that he thinks this situation is normal. “No one openly admits that they will vote for Trump, otherwise they will be ostracized,” he said.

There is no need to look far for examples: the African-American Stephanie, whom the Gazeta.Ru correspondent interrupted from reading the Bible, says she sees nothing wrong with Trump. “Well, yes, in his speeches, of course, there is something extremist, but on the other hand, he is a businessman, and in business you have to be an extremist,” she said. “We have everything built on a system of checks and balances, everything is decided not by the president, but by his team, and it will be the best.” She ignores Trump's insults to women. “I worked in prisons among murderers and didn’t hear enough of that,” laughs Stephanie, who taught in one of the prison educational institutions in Cleveland.

African-American Kevin McRae, tall as a basketball player, wearing a Trump T-shirt, is also positive towards Trump. "He's a businessman and I'm a businessman, and that's all the media is hyping," McRae, who makes his living selling souvenirs, brushes aside.

Cleveland is full of cops. They are literally at every turn, and although they look friendly, you can feel the tension on their faces. “We are non-natives, sent to reinforce,” says one of them with an “Indiana Police” patch. Colleagues from Michigan were checking the map next to him. Lots of soldiers. They're at roadblocks with state police, federal agents, and Secret Service officials.

In Cleveland, 400,000, employees of the Department of Homeland Security also arrived. The security forces fear an outbreak of violence: the state of Ohio allows the free carrying of weapons, and the police asked that this rule be canceled during the convention.

The streets are relatively calm, although police are warning of robberies: an African-American on a bicycle had his wallet torn out of one of the foreign journalists on the street.

Dump Trump

There are no mass demonstrations, which Trump's opponents were talking about with might and main, in Cleveland. A small rally with the participation of 200 people was held near the building where the congress is being held, the tone was set by Muslims from the socio-political organization CAIR. The demonstrators approached the campaign against Trump, who is known for his speeches against the Muslim population, not without wit.

At an impromptu open-air press conference, they handed out packets of chewing gum disguised as pills labeled "Islamophobin." “Take two pills and call a Muslim in the morning,” the package says. “We offer “Islamophobin” as our satirical take on what is happening, but we consider Islamophobia dangerous,” Nihad Awad, director of the organization (NAME), explained to reporters. In his speech, the Republican Party, which supports Trump, also got it, which he called the "political center of Islamophobia": if in 2000 70% of Muslim voters supported the Republicans, today, according to him, only 15%.

In addition to Muslim activists, Trump was actively vilified in every way by the left - their chant "Dump Trump" ("Trump to the dump") was in great demand among the rally participants in T-shirts "Support Palestine" and "Stop bombing Iraq."

Activists handed out almost communist proclamations to passers-by, which spoke of socialism and the rejection of both candidates, both Trump and Hillary Clinton. “If there is anything that shows the bankruptcy of a two-party system built on money, it is the Republican candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton,” one of them said. “You can’t talk about any “lesser evil,” explained a pretty girl who handed out leaflets, who had not yet decided whether she would go to vote at all.

Husband and wife Alison and Jim from Massachusetts seemed to have already made up their minds - they were holding anti-Trump posters. “We are for change and against everything Trump stands for,” said Alison, who works in communications. Bill himself agreed with his wife, saying along the way that he was engaged in statistics and even worked with "Russian scientists."

The words of a married couple of Hillary fans drowned out the cries of "We will not let the United States be turned into a state of fascism and a state of the Ku Klux Klan" and the oath of the Chilean revolutionaries, familiar to every Soviet schoolchild, "When we are united, we are invincible."

But, of course, there was no unity. And the proof that America is divided was the crowd of delegates from Texas who looked with contempt at the crowd of Trump opponents. One of them, blue-eyed blond Chris McDonald, dressed like everyone else in a wide-brimmed hat and clothes in the colors of the flag, did not spare words to protect the presidential candidate. “He may not be consistent in everything, but he is consistent in that America must again become a great country! Chris stated. “Mr. Trump is not one of those who follow political correctness, but supports the fight against illegal emigration, he is for establishing relations with other countries, including with your country.”

Steve, who traded souvenirs with Trump near the convention site, said he personally had no problem with expats, even Muslims. “We are all immigrants here - if you have arrived legally, please, you are welcome. But these, from Syria, who even checks them?” Steve was outraged. Hillary Clinton makes him hate. "She's just s... deceitful," he says of the ex-secretary of state. Approximately the same was written on his badges. Not far from the place where Steve spread out with his goods, there is a small monument to the bell, erected to commemorate the end of civil war 1865. In Cleveland, it seems like it's not over yet.

“The clown is going to be president” - with such a phrase on the front page, The New York Post newspaper appeared on June 17, 2015, the day after the eccentric billionaire Donald Trump announced his presidential ambitions. However, almost a year to five minutes later, Republican candidate Donald Trump is considering his candidacy for vice president and is meeting with Speaker of the House Paul Ryan to enlist the support of party bosses. Lenta.ru studied how the tycoon managed to crack down on "internal party opposition" and tried to imagine what the future holds for him.

Almost all American media spoke in a similar vein to The New York Post a year ago: for several months, news about the Trump campaign on the Huffington Post website was placed in the Entertainment section. In other media, he was referred to only as a "famous TV presenter" or "eccentric tycoon."

Almost no one believed in his success. In March 2015, the US National Rifle Association organized a mass meeting of voters with prominent Republicans, and even more people came to the speech of Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal than to Trump. A month later, a Wall Street Journal/NBC poll found that two-thirds of Republican voters cannot imagine ever supporting a billionaire. Time after time, experts have predicted an imminent collapse for Trump. Why were they all wrong?

Elephant split

Analysts have repeatedly promised that the star of the eccentric billionaire is about to set, and therefore Trump's opponents were in good spirits until the very last moment. After losing the primaries in Indiana Cruz, his campaign, in fact, opened the door to Trump.

“The Republican electorate was so disgusted with the existing order that they were looking for someone to come in and turn it around. Cruz, with his Harvard and Princeton education, was able to outline it, but Trump just came and moved on it, ”said former US Congressman Newt Gingrich, who advised the billionaire before the nomination and, according to CBS, may become his vice president. On May 12, he spoke openly in his support.

Donald Trump, from the very first moment he appeared in public as a candidate for the presidency of the Republican Party, began to demonstrate his unorthodox.

He immediately identified his position on trade, immigration, and even gay rights as running counter to the accepted party line. But now that he has become a kind of "face of the party," she in many ways has to adjust her position to Trump's vision.

Here five provisions, according to which Trump crushed the generally accepted view of things among the Republicans.

Image copyright AFP Image caption In the past, Donald Trump has recognized homosexual marriages.

gay rights

What Trump thinks: In the past, Donald Trump has recognized homosexual marriages. For example, when British musician Elton John married his partner, Trump tweeted: "If two people like each other, then let them like it." But during his campaign, he emphasized that marriage should be the prerogative of a man and a woman, and the state should not be forced to recognize the union of homosexual couples.

He, however, expressed disagreement with a law passed in the state of North Carolina, which requires transgender people to use restrooms designed for the sex in which they were born.

After the shooting at a gay club in Orlando in June of this year, Trump directly addressed the homosexual part of the electorate, saying that he was much more concerned than Hillary Clinton about protecting them from Islamic radicals who disagree with such a sexual orientation.

Republican platform: The party is very clear on traditional marriage between a man and a woman as the foundation of a free society and denounces the Supreme Court's decision to legalize homosexual marriage, stating that every child needs a mom and dad family.

The party also condemns Barack Obama for carrying out a social and cultural revolution among the American people, which was expressed in the fact that the concept of sexual discrimination began to include sexual orientation and other categories. The party considers it dangerous and illegal to provide transgender people with access to latrines of their own choosing.

National security

What Trump thinks: For Donald Trump, national security begins, continues, and almost ends with the construction of a 3,000-kilometer wall along the border with Mexico.

According to him, it will cost 12 billion, there are estimates twice as high as this. But whatever the cost of building it, Trump says Mexico will pay for it, possibly through taxes and visa fees, under the threat that individuals will be prevented from transferring money from the US to their home country of Mexico.

Trump also called for more investment in the defense department, saying that it should be adequately funded. He also questioned the United States' commitment to various alliances and mutual defense pacts with foreign nations, including NATO countries and South Korea, saying it was too costly for the treasury.

Last Wednesday, in an interview with the New York Times, Trump said that if he becomes president, the United States may refuse to guarantee the protection of the interests of NATO member countries.

According to him, the United States will come to the aid of only those countries that have "fulfilled their obligations" to the United States.

Republican platform: In the past, the party has called for a fence along the US-Mexico border and more funds for border control. Now, however, this is no longer enough. The wall, therefore, "should cover the entire southern border so as not to let traffic or pedestrians through."

The party has also dusted off Ronald Reagan's old "peace through strength" slogan and called for more funding for the war effort. It calls into question deterrence treaties, and while it still sees the point in an alliance like NATO, it demands that European countries invest more in their armed forces.

Image copyright Getty Images Image caption Trump Calls for Mass Deportation of 11 Million Illegals Currently Living in the US

Immigration

What Trump thinks: In December 2015, Trump was quoted by newspapers as different countries world when he called for a temporary closure of US borders to all Muslims "until we understand what's going on."

However, he recently partly retracted these words, saying that this is just a recommendation, and such a ban would be introduced only against countries with "proven terrorist activities" against the United States or its allies.

When he launched his election campaign, the first thing he did was attack illegal immigration from Mexico, accusing this country of sending drug dealers and rapists to the United States.

At the same time, Trump called for the mass deportation of 11 million illegal immigrants currently living in the United States, but not a word has been said about this lately. He also wants to reduce legal immigration and does not believe that those born in the US should automatically receive US citizenship.

Republican platform: The party acknowledges the contribution of legal immigrants, but warns that the current level of immigration is contributing to rising unemployment.

The party believes that refugees for political, religious or ethnic reasons who cannot be "properly vetted" should not be allowed into the country, especially those whose countries are hotbeds of terrorism."

The party takes a hard line on any legalization of illegal immigrants, arguing that illegal immigration endangers everyone, profits off taxpayers, and offends all those who wish to immigrate to America legally.

Image caption Republicans Want Trade Deals to Protect American Interests Above All

Trade relations

What Trump thinks: He constantly attacks what he sees as "unfair" trade agreements, namely the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a preferential trade agreement between 12 countries in the Asia-Pacific region. (TPP). There is an entire section on his website devoted to his proposed policy for changing existing US-China trade agreements.

Trump believes that past trade agreements were poorly drafted because they do not protect the rights of American workers or intellectual property, and he intends to renegotiate them with a focus on American interests. He called the TPP "country rape" and suggested hefty tariffs on those US trading partners who interfere with free competition (which would most certainly draw criticism from the WTO).

Trump also promises to punish any American company that moves its production abroad in order to pay its workers less.

Republican platform: The longtime free trade party tries to distinguish between "well-crafted trade deals" that create millions of US jobs and those deals that do not protect American interests or are not properly enforced.

The party has removed all references to the TPP, in stark contrast to four years ago when the party called for the deal to be concluded quickly so that the US would have greater access to Asian markets.

In addition, the party condemns the operations of the PRC authorities to stabilize the yuan, arguing that China's subsidizing of its own products is done in order to "crush American imports."

Image copyright EPA Image caption The main thing, according to Trump, is that America be "unpredictable" in its foreign policy

Foreign policy

What Trump thinks: Donald Trump calls American foreign policy a complete and utter failure, saying it has no vision, no purpose, and no strategy. He proposes to more zealously defend their own interests in the international arena, while avoiding participation in expensive projects.

He denounced the US-led war in Iraq, the Obama administration's involvement in the overthrow of the government in Libya, and what he calls "helpless attempts" to fight the so-called "Islamic State" in Syria and Iraq.

He also vowed to revive failed nuclear talks with Iran.

Trump spoke positively about the Russian president, once saying that he and Putin would find a common language.

Trump always speaks about China only in terms of trade or economic ties.

The main thing, according to him, is for America to be unpredictable in its foreign policy - so much so that its enemies cannot counteract it in any way.

Republican platform: The party says Donald Trump will not be bound by a recent deal with Iran that they claim allows Iranians to continue sponsoring terrorism and developing nuclear weapons.

The party calls for the destruction of the Islamic State group (banned in Russia), without going into details, and says that unconditional support for Israel is the expression of the essence of what America is.

In the Asia-Pacific region, the party is pushing for a complete phasing out of the North Korean nuclear program, accusing the Obama administration of encouraging the PRC authorities, and believing that a tougher stance should be taken in relations with China, as the liberal approach in China is being revised towards a return to Maoism.

The party denounces the erosion of personal freedoms and fundamental rights in Russia, but says the US intends to maintain friendly relations with the country. The harsh condemnation of Russian participation in the events in Ukraine, which was present in the party program in 2012, has now been removed.

It also says a few warm words about the country to beat Donald Trump - Mexico: "Its rich cultural and spiritual heritage, which is shared by millions of our fellow citizens, should receive greater understanding and establish better interaction between our countries."

Won the presidential elections held on Tuesday, follows from the results of the processing of the overwhelming majority of votes.

An eccentric billionaire, a non-systemic politician with no experience in elected office and a fighter against a "corrupt system" sensationally managed to defeat the Democratic candidate, former First Lady and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Trump, whose probability of victory was estimated by most experts in the range from 0% to 35%, was able to pull off perhaps the most profitable and largest deal in his life - with American voters. It turned out that people preferred his "contract with the people of America" more than Clinton's promises to "preserve and increase" the legacy of incumbent President Barack Obama. Neither Trump's age (at 70 he became the oldest elected president), nor his billions (he became the richest head of state), nor the scandals surrounding the politician embarrassed US citizens. They believed that it was this president who would "make America great again."

Failed military

"Workers' rebellion" and the failure of sociology: what experts think about the US electionsThe preliminary results of the US presidential election came as a surprise to experts. By winning the key states that produce the largest number of electors, Republican Donald Trump wins the election.

Donald John Trump was born in New York in 1946 to real estate broker Fred Trump, whose father had moved to the United States from Germany. Trump later said more than once that he was proud of his German ancestors, including his uncle Professor John Trump, who proved the presence of "smart genes" in their family.

The Trump family had five children, later one of his brothers died of alcoholism as an adult, which discouraged Donald from touching alcohol and tobacco.

The violent nature of the boy manifested itself quite early. At the age of 13, his parents were forced to transfer him from school to the New York Military Academy for educational purposes. However, Trump was not interested in a military career - he chose to follow in his father's footsteps, graduating in 1968 from the Faculty of Finance and Commerce at the University of Pennsylvania. Thanks to his studies, he was able to avoid being drafted into the army and at the same time being sent to the front in Vietnam.

Developer and negotiator

Donald began his real estate career at his father's company. However, almost immediately, show business also fell into the sphere of interests of the young businessman: in 1970, he invested about 70 thousand dollars in a comedy production on Broadway, but not very successfully.

A year later, he took over his father's company and immediately renamed it the Trump Organization (previously called Elizabeth Trump and Son). Two years later, this company came to the attention of the Department of Justice, which saw signs of racial discrimination in the provision of apartments to African Americans. However, the scandal did not develop, as Trump managed to sign an agreement with the Ministry of Justice, promising to continue to prevent violations.

The first project that made people talk about the young businessman was the construction of the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan in 1980. A feature of the project was preferential taxation conditions for a period of 40 years, which Trump was able to bargain with the city authorities. Thanks to this, he attracted additional investors.

New successes followed, such as the construction of Trump Tower in the heart of Manhattan. Experts once again noted the extraordinary abilities of Trump, who managed to get a plot in a prestigious area for development. Soon, the New Yorker's business expanded beyond the city and country.

The entrepreneur continued to expand the scope of his commercial interests and began to implement casino construction projects, borrowing money for this. However, at the turn of the 1980s and 90s, Trump had serious problems when his enterprises and he himself were on the verge of bankruptcy. Part of the property had to be donated to pay off debts.

Experts told how the US policy in Asia will change under the new presidentAt the moment, Clinton is ahead of Trump, according to public polls. But in some states, she began to give ground amid an FBI investigation of her correspondence.

However, the businessman did not give up the idea of making money on the construction of casinos and hotels, but in 1991-2009, a total of six establishments owned by him went bankrupt. This fact during the current election campaign actively discussed by opponents of Trump, who saw in these bankruptcies proof of his insolvency, since usually "the casino always wins."

However, the businessman came out of many failures with minimal losses, managing to negotiate with creditors and the authorities on terms acceptable to him. Democrats in the current campaign frantically "rinsed" Trump for a tax maneuver in the 1990s, when he managed to save impressive sums. The billionaire and his supporters replied that everything was done "brilliantly and according to the law."

As of 2016, Forbes magazine estimates Trump's fortune at $3.7 billion, making him the richest politician in the United States and 156th among all wealthy Americans. The businessman himself considers such an estimate to be underestimated and calls the amount of 10 billion. At the same time, analysts point out that after a series of scandals during Trump's election campaign, the value of his brand decreased by 13% (at various times, in addition to companies, the highest skyscrapers in America were named after him, as well as a casino, an airline, a modeling agency, a brand of vodka, board game and even steaks).

Showman and investor

It is worth noting that Trump showed interest not only in real estate. He was always attracted by show business, sporting events, bright interesting personalities. So, since the 1980s, the businessman has invested in sports teams and shows. He became friends with boxer Mike Tyson and called for his acquittal on charges of rape. The athlete later supported the billionaire during his election campaign. "All the tough guys support me and I love it!" Trump said in this regard.

He liked and beautiful women: Trump's first and third spouses were models (Ivana from the Czech Republic, and Melania from Slovenia). The businessman's second marriage was to American actress Marla Maples.

In 1996, Trump made another investment by buying the Miss Universe Pageant and in 1999 founded a modeling agency. Relationships with models and women in general backfired on the billionaire during the election, although criminal liability he was never attracted.

On Tuesday, November 8, Americans elect a president. More than 20 candidates are formally registered, but only representatives of the democratic and Republican Party- Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Preliminary voting results - in the infographic website

Democrat and Republican

Trump's political predilections are still perplexing even among a number of his supporters. In the late 1970s and into the 1980s, he supported the Republicans and held President Ronald Reagan in high regard. Some even considered the entrepreneur's candidacy for vice president in the 1988 election.

Trump's secret

On the one hand, the populist approach, the confrontational style of polemics and the complete unwillingness to play by the established rules have created many enemies for Trump and record unpopularity, including among party members. But on the other hand, the absolute lack of political correctness of the billionaire and his ability to mobilize the anger and irritation of voters brought him not only a nomination, but also real chances to become the President of the United States.

The US political establishment, which is used to beating rivals in its own field and according to its own rules, turned out to be absolutely helpless against Trump. Trump is addressing those who see politics as evil and politicians as crooks. These are people who are dissatisfied with the current state of affairs. Growing wealth inequality and a lack of jobs for people with a high school education are eroding the American middle class. Many residents of former industrial centers are faced with a lack of income and prospects. In Trump, they see a man who is ready to thoroughly shake up the hated establishment in Washington and take decisive action.

Another component of success is the incredible charisma of the Republican candidate. On stage, Trump is a classic populist, using sweeping promises such as "make America great again." He combines the techniques of a visiting hypnotist (his favorite phrase is "Can you believe me!") With jokes from the repertoire of stand-up comedians. Trump even performs pantomime with pleasure, parodying the physical shortcomings of his opponents. He boasted at the debate of his intimate qualities and released rude hints of a physiological nature to the TV presenter (in fact, he is not averse to discussing the sexuality of his daughter Ivanka).

Trump's lexicon is simple and understandable to most Americans (some, however, prefer to remove children from the screens during his speeches). "Dishonest system", "losers", "weaklings", "failed politics", "reform-catastrophes" - this is how he describes the state of affairs in the United States. In order to fix this, in his opinion, it is necessary to "drain the swamp" in Washington (change power), "build a great wall" on the border with Mexico, so that "illegal rapists" do not come from there, and also "get along" with Russia, together to "knock the hell out of ISIS" (the group "Islamic State", banned in the Russian Federation and a number of countries).

Trump gives offensive nicknames to his rivals: "False Ted", "Little Marco", "Rogue Hillary" and "Evil Woman". And former Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, in his words, "sold his soul to the devil" by supporting Clinton. Journalists for Trump are the most "dishonest and corrupt people" because almost all of them are opposed to him, the politician is convinced.

Ideas of confrontation and struggle against the "dishonest system" run like a red thread through Trump's proposals. In his opinion, there is a lot of "dishonest" in the world, and this must be eliminated - sometimes by negotiations, and sometimes by force. He dismisses the related criticism, saying that he can "get along" with all the world leaders, because he is a businessman and is an excellent negotiator.

However, the pragmatism of a businessman does not prevent Trump from believing that if the rules do not meet the requirements of the moment, they can be changed immediately, including unilaterally. "America comes first - always!" he explains.

Trump fans like his independence from the political establishment, the directness with which he denounces modern politicians, and radical solutions to long-standing problems. Someone trusts his experience as a business manager and his ability to "resolve issues", including with other countries. Some simply believe that America under Trump will "become great again."

Donald John Trump (Donald John Trump) was born on June 14, 1946 in a family with four children. He was a difficult child and already in elementary school was distinguished by unbearable behavior. At the age of 13, his parents decided to send Donald to the New York Military Academy in the hope that at least there he would be taught discipline. During his time at the Academy, Donald learned the true meaning of competition and realized that to achieve what you want, it's good to be a little aggressive.

Trump's father, Fred, was the biggest contributor to Trump's upbringing. They seemed to be made from the same dough. It is not surprising that it was Donald who became Fred's favorite: he was the only one who could resist his father's rigidity, uncontrollable temperament and difficult character. The father passed on to his son the exactingness that helped Trump become New York's biggest post-war developer. Fred taught his son constancy and the ability to influence a person's motivation. One of Father Donald's most important lessons was how to use other people's money, especially taxpayers' money, and how to get high dividends using your own reputation. Trump ignored only one invaluable lesson from his father: how to avoid the trouble associated with such "entrepreneurship."

Before plunging into the world of business people, Trump, at the request of his father, went to college. And despite minor successes, in 1964, the father sends his son to Fordham University, from where, two years later, Trump moves to University of Finance and Commerce, Pennsylvania Warton School.

Donald's behavior was different from the usual behavior of a student: he did not drink, did not smoke, but as a playboy he became famous much later. Studying did not become a priority for Trump, he dreamed of creating his own empire. A former classmate of his recalled that Donald was constantly talking about the changing Manhattan skyline. Helping his father, Trump became interested in real estate and decided that he wanted to do this business at all costs, but even more seriously than his father.

How Donald Trump got rich

Back when Trump was in college, he and his father decided to buy a bankrupt 1,200-unit complex called Swifton Village in Cincinnati, Ohio. Surprisingly, the state funding for this Trump project exceeded its real price, which allowed entrepreneurs to carry out restoration work in a depreciated building without investing a cent. The complex was bought for less than $6 million and sold within a year for $12 million. Donald realized in time that the government would help low-income people acquire property, and he knew better than anyone how to get such help. This incident marked the beginning of future construction magnate.

But things didn't always come easy for Donald. Although his first investment was very successful, he remained dissatisfied. Donald has always shown great interest in New York. He believed that this city would become his gold mine. Arriving here, Trump shot, by his standards, not the best the best apartment in Manhattan, but the move itself allowed him to be in the heart of New York, where he had the opportunity to directly enter the real estate market. Walking the streets, Donald carefully studied the buildings. He believed that in the future this knowledge would help him create his own name.

Trump was well aware that in order to penetrate the environment of the powerful and “get” elite clients, he needed make friends with politicians and prominent bankers. Donald set himself the task of entering the then closed club for the rich of French origin. Without weighty recommendations, it was almost impossible to realize this dream. Therefore, Donald chose a different path: the young businessman sought meetings with the manager of the club and, finally, became the owner of the coveted card. Membership in the most prestigious club actually gave Trump the opportunity to contact the richest clients: top managers, oil kings, union bosses, successful models - in a word, regulars of such establishments. Trump has become one of them. Far from prying eyes, fantastic deals were made, millions of contracts were concluded.

Donald's first steps in New York as a real estate developer went unnoticed. Even though his price bids were more promising than those of his competitors, Trump has consistently failed. His early fame and fortune seemed to be fading away. Perhaps the reason for this was youth and inexperience, which caused doubts among older and experienced developers. However, this did not stop Donald, he became more purposeful and aggressive, like a spoiled child throwing a tantrum and not getting what he wants.

Taking the lifting capital from his father, in 1974 Trump made his first independent deal. From the bankrupt Penny Central Railroad, he bought the early 20th-century, already dilapidated Commodore Hotel, adjacent to Grand Central Station. Trump managed to get the city to grant him a 40-year property tax deferral, banks to lend $70 million to fund a new hotel on the Commodore site, and Hyatt Corporation to lend its brand. And soon the decrepit Commodore was replaced by the luxurious Grand Hyatt Hotel.

From the start, Trump has been incredibly lucky. A few years before the legalization of the gambling business in Atlantic City (New Jersey) in 1976, he began to buy land. By 1982, this land was worth more than $20 million.

But it was the construction of Trump Tower that really made it the largest New York developer. In 1979, he received a $45 million multi-year lease on a department store building on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street in Manhattan. The building stood next to the Tiffany boutique. “New York is a minefield. You’re dead if you don’t know where you’re stepping,” Trump explained. “And Tiffany always takes the best place in any city in the world. I just could not pass up such an offer. "In place of the department store, he was going to build a stately building, which will contain only first-class shops, offices and apartments. Trump quickly negotiated a loan with banks, but then unexpected difficulties arose. The mayor refused to provide tax incentives $ 50 million, he said that the law is designed to stimulate the construction of low-cost housing, not a luxury complex. The entire ambitious project was in jeopardy. Donald went to court, but the judge sided with the city. The appeal was also unsuccessful. It seemed that Trump would have to But unexpectedly, the next court ordered the municipality to give Trump tax breaks, a strategy that Trump then called "fight until you win" and has always followed it.

Three years later, in 1982, the grand opening of the magnificent 68-story Trump Tower, at the time the tallest and most expensive reinforced concrete building in New York City, took place. The building featured a six-story atrium, a 25-meter waterfall, and a pink marble lobby. Trump Tower has become a real Klondike. In 1988 alone, Trump received $100 million from this building (other co-owners received another $90 million) and $30 million for the land under it.

The 1980s were Trump's golden years - all of his projects gushed out in the millions. Although Trump was never modest, now his behavior bordered on megalomania. When asked how things were going, he began to answer simply: "It's good to be Donald."

Trump's power was finally recognized after the completion of the Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in 1979.

The 58-story shopping and apartment complex, complete with an 80-foot waterfall, garnered the attention Donald wanted. The fashionable building attracted the interest of famous shopkeepers and celebrity tenants such as Sophia Loren and the King Saudi Arabia. The building has become Trump's trademark. Trump Tower saw a huge number of tourists, became a clear example of great financial success. When competitors tried to force Donald out of the market by cutting prices, Trump, on the contrary, raised them. He calculated correctly: rich consumers are not worried about price. Thanks to a well-adjusted advertising campaign, New York's moneymakers have been stingy in purchasing office space in Trump Tower. "Golden" meters were sold out overnight. This once again proved that Donald Trump understands the psychology of the rich. He found his niche and was going to use all its opportunities.

Donald Trump's Entertainment Empire: Gambling

After completing the construction of Trump Tower, Donald turned his eyes to Atlantic City, where he dreamed of creating entertainment empire. He enlisted his younger brother, Robert, to lead the project to buy land and obtain a gambling license. Holiday Inns Corporation offered to collaborate, and in 1982 a $250 million complex called Harra opened. Trump bought out Holiday Inns in 1986 and renamed the establishment the Trump Plaza Hotel & Casino, which has become as iconic in Atlantic City as Trump Tower in New York. Donald also bought the Hilton hotel and casino in Atlantic City, but when the corporation failed to obtain a gambling license, he renamed the $320 million complex Trump Castle. A little later, in 1990, he bought the most expensive casino hotel in the world, the Taj Mahal.

At its peak in 1989, Trump's $1 billion empire (in addition to Trump Tower and the Atlantic City casino) included Trump Parc, which was 24,000 rental units and apartments, Trump Shuttle Airline, an Indiana river casino, a football the New Jersey Generals of the US Football League, Trump Castle and fashionable private houses.

Trump's The Art of Survival was written for those who understand the mechanics of business relationships and want to succeed. While lecturing in America, Donald wipes the noses of those who used to be dismissive of him. In The Art of Survival, he states: "I set myself high goals to achieve what I become after that." Donald Trump focuses on the fact that creating a business is an ability with which a person is born, because it is genetically incorporated. This conviction has always guided his business.

Donald Trump takes risks

It was at the moment when Trump felt that he had achieved everything he wanted, due to his lack of management experience, he began to lose control of his own business. The great tycoon liked to make acquisitions in the real estate market through someone else's money. His partners included lenders to major banks such as Citicorp, Chase Manhattan, and investment firms such as Merrill Lynch. In order to get loans, Trump paid a lot of attention to public opinion. He used the image created by the media to impress the bankers. He also had a close relationship with a real estate executive at Chase Manhattan Bank, who preferred to forge long-term relationships with top-notch clients that Donald Trump embodied. This relationship made it possible to receive funding without formally reviewing each loan request (Trump was not always able to meet the necessary requirements). In the end, Donald was unable to balance between current assets and growing unpaid debts. Market instability, requiring large investments, promised Trump bankruptcy. Information began to leak into the press that the brilliant and charming Donald was not doing so well. In addition, they talked about problems in the personal life of the magnate. Trump was confused: the empire was slipping out of his hands, the most powerful man in New York was becoming helpless.

However, the banks at that time were not in the best position. They provided Trump with the money without caring too much about how successful his operations would be.

Banks, which had never funded a gambling business before, financed the Trump empire more enamored by his name and previous successes than by concrete arguments.

Donald built huge casinos, apartment complexes full of lights, hotels, an aeroflot and gave them his name. Banking representatives, blinded by Trump's charms, thought they would make huge profits. But in reality, it looked like they sold their souls to the Devil, because if Trump failed, then they would not be lucky.

Donald Trump takes a hit

In 1990, Trump found himself in the precarious position of being unable to repay more than $2 billion in loans. While it was possible to secure some funding in a critical event, in return, not only would the creditor banks have to hand over control and management of more part of real estate, but also 10% of all earned.

And yet, gradually losing control of the Trump Shuttle, the casino and the Plaza, Trump had to go through this in order to pay off the debt as soon as possible. Creditors were hard to beat. Ultimately, the litigation became like a tug-of-war: whose name would suffer more - them or Trump. If they wanted to provide Donald with money, the banks were constrained by the situation. The credit crunch forced the federal agencies to take more control of the banks, which in turn limited their ability to cooperate with Trump.

After numerous negotiations with creditors, Trump hired a financier to oversee the operation of the Trump empire. The new administrator was responsible for the sale of the property. Donald's personal expenses amounted to $450,000 in 1990 and $300,000 in 1992. However, Trump did not seem to lose hope. Like many real estate developers in New York, being on the verge of bankruptcy, he tried to stay afloat. True, neither the media nor the public were buying into his optimism.

What a swift collapse in the early nineties! Some believe that this was due to Trump's lack of clear strategies. For example, when decorating a building or a plane with his name, he thought that it would immediately bring him money.

Trump was not a magician, he was born with instinctive flair for profitable real estate ventures. Forbes magazine has been critical of Trump, arguing that his mounting debt will result in the loss of more than two-thirds of his wealth.

Success of Donald Trump

Donald Trump has achieved resounding success in the real estate market, paying a very high price for it. He achieved a lot and quickly, but did not know how to plan. Trump's projects, like two sides of the coin, were profitable and deadly for investors at the same time.

Despite setbacks and 53 years of age, Trump remains the most famous businessman in America. According to research by the Gallap Organization, 98% of Americans know him better than such well-known businessmen as Jack Welch, Warren Buffett, Steve Jobs or Ted Turner. According to Forbes magazine, Donald was ahead of the time that gave birth to him and managed to stay in the spotlight. It is perfectly preserved, like a body frozen by cryogen. The love of money, success and fame drives him, prompting him to create large projects, amazing the city and the public.

There is another view of Trump's activities. Fortune magazine polled several thousand wealthy people to rank the 469 companies that everyone admires. Trump's casinos in 1999 were in last place.

The fact is that Trump's fortune allows him to invest in several projects at the same time. Usually one in five investments will cover the rest, although Donald himself tries to disprove this in his book The America We Deserve: “I don't think anyone knows how big my business is. People prefer to talk about my personal life, and not about the fact that I am building a 90-story building next to the UN ... They condemn me for every wrong step.

Many associates of Donald Trump talk about his incredible abilities and supernatural memory. But here's what's surely hard to argue with: Trump will never play with security. Trump visits construction sites every day, yelling that the wrong kind of concrete is being used, that the marble isn't flat enough, that the ceiling needs to be torn down and redone. Trump should be everywhere. He says that if you want to do something well, you must do it yourself. He is the sole manager of his company: he negotiates with subcontractors, instead of relying on the purchasing department. But he is able to make the porter or worker feel needed and important.

Trump's lifestyle hasn't changed much since the early 1980s, his approach to doing business has changed. He has become more cautious, he does not refrain from investing large sums, he tries to cooperate with financial patrons.

There are many who want to take advantage of the hyped name: one company paid Donald $5 million for the right to place the Trump Tower sign on a hotel in Seoul. Trump's opponents and competitors say that this is how Donald is used in their financial interests that Trump has become a brand, that his name is put on buildings that he does not own. Trump always defends himself by saying, "I'm the biggest real estate developer in the hottest city in the world."

In Manhattan, Donald and his partner Daewoo built a huge 90-story building called the Trump World Tower. The skyscraper is about 900 feet tall and is located on First Avenue. Hanging over Manhattan, it literally suppresses the “modest” 59-story UN building located opposite. They say that UN Secretary General Kofi Annan is terribly dissatisfied with such a neighborhood, but what can you do if even the former mayor of New York, Rudolph Giuliani, chose not to interfere.

On the west side of Manhattan, Trump and a group of Hong Kong investors own two buildings in an 18-building apartment complex above the Hudson River that, again, bear Trump's name. This project was the last on the ground of Manhattan. Sales of apartments in both buildings bring a huge income. As for Trump's three properties, he calls them "my other children": Trump Tower, 40 Wall Street, and General Motors, which he bought in 1998 with insurance company Conseco. In addition, Donald Trump is the official owner of the Miss Universe pageant, a highly popular and lucrative enterprise watched by some 2.5 billion people in more than 90 countries. Almost 700 foreign TV channels buy the right to broadcast the competition. And if we take into account that 150 million Internet users saw the beauties, then we can estimate how much profit was brought by advertising at these events. But even this was not enough for Trump. In 2000, he ran in the presidential election as a representative of the Reform Party.

Trump is not doing so well ...

Without his casinos, Trump would not be who he is today. Once Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts, opened by Donald in 1995 under the name DJT, were his salvation. It was they who, with the then earnings of a construction magnate of $ 140 million, helped to repay loans. Surprisingly, even after almost complete bankruptcy and unsuccessful investments, Donald's assets are in great shape. Trump's three casinos in New Jersey generate almost a third of all gambling revenues in Atlantic City and compete with the new mega casino Taj Mahal, which has about 4,500 slot machines and brings in $100 million in cash annually. The flow of the smaller Trump Marina is $53 million. Adding in revenue from the Trump Plaza and the Outside Gary Ind.

At first glance, the amount is impressive, but given that most of the income goes to repay a high-interest debt of $1.8 billion, the company does not have much money left for reinvestment. Shareholders get even less.

The press often accuses Trump of using the casino as a "personal piggy bank." This, for example, can be judged by the fact that the pilots of his personal Boeing 747 are on the company's payroll.

Donald does not leave the media without gossip. For example, in 1996, when he sold Trump Marina for what shareholders thought was too high, Trump claimed it was a "great deal." He angered investors when, in 1998, he used $26 million given to him by the company to pay off a personal loan to Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette. However, Donald himself completely denied the fact that he misused the company's funds, promising to return the money. Well, Trump always knows how to take advantage of the situation in the best possible way.

Many believe that right decision for Trump it would be to step back from governance. Production executives believe that this move alone could lead to a 30% increase in the company's share price. But Trump always takes the opposite path. He proves that he can do without advice.

It is rather strange that a person who "lives" in the media does not have PR people. While even petty tycoons defend themselves with “platoons” of press attaches, he relies only on his old assistant, Norma Foederer (photo). Donald answers the questions of most reporters personally, gaining fame as the most "accessible" businessman in the world.

Although Trump runs two companies with a staff of 22,000, it is not easy to feel like his subordinate - he is not only the sole owner, but also the only employee. Both former and current employees speak of Donald as a loyal but not particularly generous boss. However, some shrug their shoulders when it comes to the popularity of their manager. Trump is ironic and ambitious. He is a purposeful workaholic, constantly on the lookout, so it's hard to blame him for using his desire to shake America up again as an incentive for success. It seems that Trump's name will always remain in the spotlight, because it is not without reason that his surname is translated as "trump card".
