A burrito (although a burrito would be more correct) is a corn or wheat tortilla that is wrapped around a filling, usually meat, a traditional Mexican dish. IN Lately people show great interest in Chinese, Italian, Mexican, Brazilian cuisine. How to cook burrito? In this recipe I suggest step by step cooking burrito at home from products that are available to everyone, and as a flat cake there will be ordinary pita bread. Let's get started!

To make 6 burritos, we need:

  • Chicken breasts - 2 pcs. (pre-boil in salted water)
  • Bulgarian sweet pepper - 1 pc.
  • Fresh tomatoes - 2 pcs.
  • Fresh champignons - 200 g (or 1 can of salted ones)
  • Onion - 2-3 heads (it is better to use red)
  • Parsley - 1 bunch
  • Garlic - 1-2 cloves
  • Lean oil - 3 tbsp. spoons
  • Cheese - 150 g (semi-hard varieties)
  • Lavash Armenian - 6 pcs. (you can use corn tortillas)
  • Ketchup - 2 tbsp. spoons
  • Mayonnaise - 1 tbsp. spoon
  • Pepper

Before starting cooking, I suggest preparing all the ingredients, since the frying process will take 2-3 minutes for each ingredient. Burrito is a dish for those who love creativity, so do not limit yourself in the choice of ingredients - try new things. If something is not at hand, replace it. The preparation of burrito can be divided into 2 stages: preparing the filling and directly folding the burrito envelopes.

The process of making a burrito

  1. Peel the onion and cut into half rings. Boiled chicken breast fillet - cubes. Sweet pepper - medium pieces. Finely chop parsley greens. Tomatoes - cut into cubes. Cheese rub on a grater. Finely chop the garlic. Mushrooms, if they are fresh, cut across into thin plates, and if canned, cut into pieces, then nothing needs to be done.
  2. In a frying pan, heat up the vegetable oil. We fry the onion. Add finely chopped garlic and fry it all for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
  3. Add chicken, stir and fry for 2-3 minutes. You should get a mass, as in the photo on the right 😉
  4. Add mushrooms. If you use raw champignons, increase the frying time to 5 minutes. We mix.
  5. Next, add sweet pepper and make our burrito filling bright! Saute for 2-3 minutes until peppers are soft. Salt the resulting mass a little, add a little black pepper.
  6. It's time to add chopped tomatoes. Mix everything and fry for 2-3 minutes.
  7. Next, add chopped parsley. Without greens, burrito will not be so fragrant and beautiful! Stir and simmer a little - 2-3 minutes. Everything, the filling for the burrito is ready. Now the most important thing: the filling of the burrito tortillas.
  8. The folding of the burrito deserves special attention. I tried to make it as clear as possible. We unfold the pita bread (or tortilla cake), put the filling in the middle, which needs to be cooled a little. Top with pita bread and pull to the edge. Then we wrap the edges on the right and left and fold the envelope. Next, wrap the entire pita bread completely. Burrito is ready. We also make all kinds of pita bread. Sprinkle the top of the burrito with grated cheese. And we send it to the oven or microwave (you can use the grill function - so the cheese will turn out more ruddy).
  9. Take the burrito out of the microwave (or oven). Top with mayonnaise and ketchup. For example, as in the photo:

How to cook a burrito with sausage and mushrooms.

1. In a large skillet, heat a tablespoon of oil. Add mushrooms and sauté for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Remove from stove.

2. In a small bowl, beat together the eggs with 2 tbsp. l. sour cream, salt and pepper.

3. Add diced sausage and stir.

4. In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tbsp. l. butter, pour in the egg mixture and cook for only about 3 minutes without overcooking. Remove from skillet and place in a bowl.

5. Spread the middle of each cake with a thick layer of sour cream. Layer the egg mixture, crushed mozzarella cheese, sautéed mushrooms and chopped tomato.

6. Close the filling with one edge of the tortilla, then on both sides and twist (form a burrito).

7. Heat a frying pan over medium heat, pour in 2 tablespoons of oil. Place the burrito in it, folded side down, cook without flipping until the bottom is golden brown. Fry on each side for about 2 minutes, adding the remaining oil as needed.

How to make a chicken burrito

Making a chicken burrito is very easy. For this recipe, you will need simple products:

  • 600 g of chicken meat,
  • 3 avocados
  • 4 tomatoes,
  • 1 head of onion
  • 1 bunch cilantro (coriander)
  • freshly squeezed juice of one lemon,
  • 3 tsp salt,
  • 3 tsp pepper,
  • 4 cakes,
  • olive oil (3 - 4 tablespoons).

Cooking chicken burrito.

1. Cut the meat into small pieces (2 ½ cm).

2. Add two teaspoons of salt, pepper, or 1 tbsp. l. spices Masterfoods. Leave to marinate for 2 hours.

3. Cut off the tops of the tomatoes, remove the pulp with a teaspoon.

4. Cut the hollow tomatoes and onions into small pieces. Mix them together in a bowl, add chopped cilantro or coriander.

5. Cut the avocado in half. Remove seeds. Place the halves of the fruit in a bowl, mash with a fork until smooth.

6. Add mashed avocado to tomatoes with onion and cilantro. Stir.

7. Add lemon juice and 1 tsp to the mixture. salt.

8. Heat a skillet with a few tablespoons of olive oil over high heat.

9. Lay out the chicken pieces, fry them on all sides until brown.

10. Prepare the cakes. For 10 - 12 pieces, take 2 cups of cornmeal, add 1 tsp. salt and 50 g of margarine. Stir. Pour 1 ¼ hot water a thin stream, not forgetting to mix until the dough becomes soft.

Divide the dough into 10-12 pieces and place under a warm damp towel for a few minutes.

Roll out thin cakes and fry them in a hot frying pan without oil (on both sides over low heat).

11. While the tortillas are soft and warm, spread guacamole (mixture with avocado) and chicken pieces on their middles. Quickly roll up the tortillas (before they have cooled).

Serve chicken burritos on the table or refrigerate. To reheat in the oven, wrap the burrito in aluminum foil.

Burrito with minced meat

Burrito with minced meat has an original taste that can easily surprise your guests or household. This Mexican dish can only be found in restaurants at home, and this is an occasion for us to prepare burritos for our holiday feasts.

Ingredients for Minced Burrito:

  • 4 tortillas (see the recipe "how to make a chicken burrito", step 10),
  • minced meat (beef), 450 g,
  • boiled beans (1 cup)
  • large onion (1 pc.),
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • fresh hot pepper (chili)
  • 5 tomatoes,
  • salt and peppercorns,
  • hot sauce (optional)
  • cilantro greens (to taste)
  • olive oil (1 - 2 tablespoons).

Minced meat burrito recipe.

1. Cut the onion into small pieces, chop the garlic cloves.

2. Remove seeds and partitions from chili peppers, cut into pieces.

3. Peel the tomatoes (put in a large bowl, pour hot water over it, wait 5 minutes, remove and peel with a sharp knife).

4. Grind the beans with a pusher (not to a homogeneous consistency).

5. Mash a few peppercorns in a hand mortar to a powder.

6. Cut the cilantro greens.

7. Heat the olive oil in a frying pan. Fry the onion until golden brown, stirring constantly.

8. Add garlic and chili. Stir, simmer for 5 minutes, stir so that the vegetables do not burn.

9. Put the minced meat to the fried vegetables and fry until the meat is cooked (light brown).

10. Add tomatoes, beans and spices to the mixture. Stir and mash the tomatoes until soft. Simmer another 4-5 minutes. or until all the liquid has evaporated.

11. Put the prepared filling in the middle of each cake, pour over the sauce, sprinkle with cilantro and wrap in a roll.

12. Top the minced meat burrito with sour cream or hot sauce (optional).

Bright expressive salsa, strong fragrant tequila and burritos seasoned with hot chili peppers are all components of Mexican cuisine. Not everyone will have a chance to visit Mexico, but everyone can arrange a salsa party, drink tequila and treat friends with a real Mexican burrito. The Mexicans use this tortilla not only for preparing a variety of dishes, for them a tortilla is a plate, fork and spoon all rolled into one. Almost any Mexican dish can be put on a tortilla and eaten with the same tortilla, it can scoop up the sauce, hold a piece of meat and extinguish the fire in the mouth raging from a small chili pepper. Traditionally, tortillas are baked over an open fire in clay pans called comal, but this is how they do it in Mexico, which is far from us. We, the inhabitants of Russia, have three options for getting a tortilla: buy a finished product in a store, though it’s not at all a fact that exactly what you need will be in a bright package with a catchy name, replace the tortilla with pita bread, but then your burrito will be called a banal shawarma, or try baking your own Mexican tortillas. We lean towards the latter option and suggest starting your burrito by making a tortilla.

To make tortilla at home, you will need 2 cups of cornmeal, 1 teaspoon of salt, 50 grams of lard or margarine, and about a cup and a quarter of hot water. Pour the flour into a deep bowl, add salt to it and mix. Grate lard or margarine on a coarse grater and add to the flour. Stir and start rubbing flour with lard with your hands until the mass begins to crumble. Then pour hot water in a thin stream, remembering to mix the dough until it becomes soft and plastic. Add some more flour and knead the dough, divide it into 10-12 pieces and cover for a few minutes with a warm damp towel. Roll each piece of dough into a ball. Dust the board with flour and use a rolling pin to roll each ball into a very thin cake. Heat a cast iron skillet, reduce the heat and, without adding any oil, fry each tortilla on both sides for about 30-40 seconds. Cover the finished tortillas with a towel.

Half done! It remains only to choose which burrito to cook. And there are plenty to choose from. You can cook burritos with meat, poultry, vegetable, spicy and even sweet. Anything can be wrapped in a thin tortilla, for example, boiled beans or rice, meat and eggs, bell peppers with onions and, of course, some kind of sauce. We offer three burrito recipes: meat, vegetarian and sweet. Which of these options to cook, which ingredient to remove, and which to add, is up to you.

Ingredients:
2 chicken breasts
3 limes
2 red bell peppers,
2 green bell peppers,
1 onion
4 tortillas,
2 tomatoes
60 gr cheese
cilantro,
salad,
ground black pepper,
salt.

Cooking:
Remove the bones from the chicken breasts and rinse the meat thoroughly in running water. Salt and pepper the chicken and place in a deep bowl. Squeeze the juice from the lime and add 2/3 of it to the chicken. Leave the chicken to marinate for 15 minutes. Rinse and cut the pepper into thin strips, peel and cut the onion into rings, chop the tomatoes. If there is a grill pan, then fry the chicken on it, if not, then you can use a regular pan. Place the fried chicken on a cutting board and let it cool, then cut into thin strips. Lay the tortillas on a clean surface, top with the peppers, onions, tomatoes, herbs, and chicken, and drizzle with the remaining lime juice. Grate the cheese on a fine grater and sprinkle on top of the tortillas. Shape the burrito and place it in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.

Ingredients:
2 tortillas,
2 sweet bell peppers
2 tomatoes
200 gr green beans,
1 st. boiled rice,
ground paprika,
ground chili pepper,
olive oil,
greenery,
salt.

Cooking:
Peel and cut the bell pepper into thin strips, peel and cut the tomatoes, finely chop the fresh herbs. Put a pan on the fire and heat some olive oil in it, add green beans, chopped peppers and tomatoes. Simmer over low heat for 10 minutes, then add rice, salt, pepper and lay out the greens. Pour the slightly cooled filling into the tortillas, shape into a burrito and place in the preheated oven for a few minutes.

Ingredients:
50 gr butter,
8 tortillas,
400 gr cherry jam
200 gr fresh pitted cherries
1 tsp cinnamon,
1 tbsp powdered sugar.

Cooking:
Divide the jam and cherries evenly into 8 tortillas, roll the tortillas into envelopes. Grease a baking sheet with oil and place the resulting envelopes on it. Brush each envelope with melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon. Bake the sweet burrito in an oven preheated to 190°C for 12-15 minutes. Sprinkle the finished burrito with powdered sugar and serve.

Cooking:
Grate lime zest and squeeze 2 tbsp. juice. Mix zest and juice. Peel the tomatoes and cut them into small cubes, add to the zest and juice. Chop the onion very finely, remove the seeds from the pepper and finely chop it. Add the onion, chili, cilantro, salt and black pepper to the tomatoes. Mix thoroughly.

Where does a burrito start?

Any burrito recipe begins, of course, with tortillas. And in order for our dish to be as Mexican as possible, we will not replace tortillas (as the Mexicans call tortillas) with pita bread, but bake them ourselves. So let's get started!

Let's bake tortillas!

We take two and a half glasses of flour, a glass of hot water, 50 g of fat (butter or margarine), a teaspoon of salt. Pour two cups of flour and salt into a deep bowl, then stir in the fat and knead it well with your hands, mixing with flour. Pour a glass of hot water (not boiling water!), while stirring the dough well with a fork, transfer it to the table and continue to knead, gradually adding the remaining flour. The dough should turn out obedient and not very steep. Cover it with foil and leave for half an hour to rest. After a little more knead the dough and divide it into pieces the size of a tennis ball. We roll them into thin cakes, which we bake in a dry frying pan for about thirty seconds, until brown spots appear. As you bake, fold the cakes in a slide, shifting with parchment leaves. Wrap the finished cakes in a film to avoid drying out, then it will be easy to wrap the filling in them. Whichever burrito recipe you choose, this flatbread is perfect for it.

Let's make stuffing!

Now let's start preparing the filling, and so that you have plenty to choose from, we give two options.

Chicken burrito filling

You will need a couple of chicken breasts, a medium-sized onion, a glass of milk, a can of canned corn, one hundred grams of hard cheese, a tablespoon of flour, a couple of cloves of garlic, cumin, sour cream, butter and vegetable oil for frying.

We cut the chicken into cubes, and the onion into rings and lightly fry them in vegetable oil. At this stage, add cumin and salt. We turn the corn, together with the juice from the can, into a puree with a blender and pour it into the pan. Add half a glass of milk, butter and flour. Cook over medium heat until thickened. Add garlic and simmer for another ten minutes. When the filling is ready, put it on cakes, sprinkle with grated cheese and wrap the cakes on three sides. Put the burritos on a baking sheet and bake in the oven to melt the cheese.

For this filling, we take four eggs, half a glass of hard cheese, ground black pepper, sour cream, olive oil, one hundred grams of green chili pepper.

Beat eggs, add pepper and salt. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet and fry the chili peppers for about a minute. After filling them with beaten eggs and until they harden, mix.   1. Chicken breast (500 g) is cut into thin strips and fried in vegetable oil until tender.
  2. On a separate frying pan, onion and chili peppers are fried.
  3. In a deep bowl, diced cooled is mixed chicken breast, onion and hot pepper, sweet bell pepper, canned beans (300 g), a little Chinese cabbage. All ingredients are well mixed.
  4. A lettuce leaf is laid out on a tortilla, and a few tablespoons of filling are placed on top of it.

Chicken and corn burrito filling is light and at the same time satisfying, juicy and healthy. You can wrap the filling in soft and thin pita bread. From the received amount, you will get as many as 8 servings.

  1. First of all, you need to cut a sheet of pita bread into 3-4 parts so that it resembles a tortilla in size.
  2. Further, in a pan with vegetable oil (2 tablespoons), onion is fried in half rings and diced boiled chicken breast (250 g).
  3. Next, diced tomato, salt, pepper and canned corn (1 can) are added.
  4. As soon as the filling has cooled, it is laid out in the center of the pita bread, sprinkled with grated cheese and herbs on top.
  5. Lavash is wrapped in a tube and sprinkled with cheese again.

Lavash vegetable burrito

A light vegetable snack wrapped in pita bread can also claim to be directly related to burrito. This is a simplified version of the dish, which is prepared at home in just 10 minutes. Cooking sequence:

  1. Mushrooms (100 g) are cut into thin slices and fried in vegetable oil.
  2. Tomatoes (2 pcs.) Are cut into thin slices or cubes.
  3. Sweet peppers and avocados are crushed in a similar way.
  4. A sauce is prepared from sour cream (150 ml), mustard (1 teaspoon), garlic (2 cloves), salt and sugar (½ teaspoon each).
  5. The lavash sheet is cut in half (into 2 portions), the sauce is distributed on top and the vegetable filling, grated cheese and finely chopped greens are laid out.
  6. The edge of the pita bread is folded inward so that the filling does not fall out, after which the burrito is rolled up.

For it, you can cook any meat or vegetable filling. Depending on this, you will get either a light snack or a full-fledged burrito. A recipe with a photo at home in the oven is offered below:

  1. Beef (300 g) is chopped with a sharp knife and fried in vegetable oil. Onions, diced tomatoes (2 pcs.), Bell peppers and garlic are added. When the meat and vegetables are ready, canned beans (200 ml) are laid out.
  2. The filling is laid out in the center of the tortilla, after which the tortilla is folded into an envelope and sent to the baking dish.
  3. Each tortilla is smeared on top with spicy tomato sauce and sprinkled with grated cheese.
  4. Tortillas are baked in the oven for 7 minutes at a temperature of 180 °, after which they are served hot to the table.
