Which goods are subject to mandatory declaration at the Hungarian customs?

When passing customs control, it is necessary to enter in the customs declaration:
  • Precious metals, precious stones and articles containing them or made from them must be declared.
  • items prohibited for export.
  • goods not intended for personal use.
  • goods imported from outside the EU, the quantity of which exceeds the amount established for exemption from customs duties (tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, medicines and other duty-free goods).
  • goods subject to import bans or restrictions.
In case of doubt, you must declare all goods. When entering Hungary from Russia and transporting goods purchased in EU countries, it is necessary to keep the receipt in order not to pay customs duties and taxes again. If you want to transport these goods to another EU country, you will still have to present them at customs when entering the EU.

Customs fees in Hungary.

When importing goods, travelers must pay import duties, which are taxed on goods purchased from abroad. Depending on the product, they include customs duties and other charges such as value added tax, excise taxes on tobacco, beer or alcohol.
The purchase price is the basis for calculating the amount of import duties. Therefore, you must keep receipts or invoices for goods purchased from abroad. If you cannot document the value of the purchase (for example, the product was given to you as a gift), market prices will be used as the basis for estimating the value of the purchase. If the price includes an amount of value added tax, this amount will not be included in the calculation basis if you can prove that the goods were exempted from payment of value added tax in the country where the purchase was made and that you, as the buyer, are beneficiaries of this exemption. The amount of customs duties, therefore, depends primarily on the value and rate of duty.
