World Day for Safety at Work - April 28, 2019

World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2019 theme: “Occupational Safety and the Future of Work”.

On the eve of its centenary and influenced by discussions about the future of the world of work, the ILO, celebrating World Day for Safety and Health at Work this year, takes stock of a century of efforts to improve the situation in this area and plans for the future, looking forward to continuing this work in the face of major changes, relating to aspects such as technology, demography, work organization and climate.

On April 28, the officially established World Day for Safety at Work, celebrations around the world will begin on the theme “Safety at work and the future of work”, which will continue until the end of 2019. They will celebrate the wealth of knowledge and experience gained over a century and a half as we prepare to embrace and appreciate the changes that the future of work holds for us.

To this end, the ILO will produce a related global report highlighting its 100-year commitment to saving lives and building safer and healthier production environment. The report will show how OSH has evolved from before the founding of the ILO in 1919 to the present day, and highlight the important turning points that have affected the field and how the ILO has contributed to improving OSH.

It is also important that the global report will touch upon such aspects as changes in forms of employment, technologies (digitization and ICT, work on digital platforms, automation and robotics) and demographic indicators, globalization, climate change and other factors affecting the dynamics of protection work and the nature of the professions in this area, regardless of the persistent traditional and newly emerging risks and deviations that exist in developing and developed countries.

To deepen the debate, the ILO will publish 33 original op-ed articles written by real members of the OSH expert community from different countries, who will share sound ideas and insights about OSH and the future of work, and look at the issue from a variety of expert and practical perspectives.

World Day for Safety at Work - April 28, 2017

World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2017 theme: "Optimizing the collection and use of data on labor protection".

In an effort to increase attention to the magnitude and consequences of accidents and diseases associated with labor activity The ILO considers OSH to be high on the international agenda and supports action at all levels to improve it. In order to assist ILO member countries in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 8 on decent work and economic growth, and above all in addressing its stated objective - "Protect labor rights and promote safe and secure working conditions for all workers", - the International Labor Office plans to issue a package teaching materials containing up-to-date information and guidelines, the application of which will assist ILO member states in organizing the collection and use of OSH data.

As data on work-related accidents and illnesses are essential for their prevention, there is an urgent need to improve registration and notification systems, as well as the collection and analysis of OSH data at the national level. This will enable countries to obtain more reliable indicators of the performance of national OSH systems and to identify which OSH issues require the most resource allocation, which is often limited.

Optimizing the collection of reliable data is critical to prioritizing and improving prevention programs both nationally and in the workplace. In addition, the harmonization of national registration and notification systems will enable the collection and analysis of data on a global scale for preventive purposes and thus have a more accurate picture of the progress made in this area.

World Day for Safety at Work - April 28, 2014

World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2014 theme: "Occupational safety when using chemicals in the workplace".

The ever-increasing production and use of chemicals in the workplace is a real challenge both for society at large and for the world of work. Finding the right balance between the benefits of using chemicals and measures to prevent and control their possible negative impacts on workers, workplaces, local communities and the environment should be an ongoing concern and at the same time a priority for governments, employers, workers and their organizations. The joint efforts of stakeholders should be aimed at taking comprehensive responses to the negative consequences that accompany scientific and technical progress, the worldwide growth in the production of chemicals and changes in the organization of work in this area.

World Day for Safety at Work - April 28, 2013

The theme of World Day for Safety and Health at Work in 2013 is "Prevention of occupational diseases".

Occupational diseases are the leading cause of work-related death worldwide. The ILO estimates that of the 2.34 million workplace deaths each year, only 321,000 are due to accidents. The remaining 2.02 million deaths (or 5,500 deaths per day) are caused by various types of occupational diseases. This is evidence of an unacceptable decent work deficit.

The imperfection of the occupational disease prevention system has a serious negative impact not only on workers and their families, but also on society as a whole. We are talking about the cost of lost productivity and the burden on the welfare system. Prevention is much more effective and less expensive than treatment or rehabilitation. All countries can and should take concrete steps to improve their ability to prevent occupational diseases.

April 28, 2012

The theme of World Day for Safety at Work in 2012 will be "Promotion of labor protection in the "green" economy". The green economy has become a symbol of a more sustainable economy and a society committed to preserving the environment for future generations. The transition to a green economy that creates green jobs and greener industries and production processes has been a key element on the path to achieving an environmentally sustainable economic and social development. However, the technologies used in some green workplaces may be environmentally friendly but not safe.

With the development of a green economy, it is essential to integrate labor protection issues into policies to create green jobs. We are talking, among other things, about the introduction of risk assessment and management measures in the analysis of the life cycle of all "green" jobs. It is necessary to combine the protection of the health and safety of workers and the protection environment in order to provide an integrated approach to achieving sustainable development.

We invite you to join us in promoting the ideas of this important day.

Safe and healthy workplaces: making decent work a reality

Decent Work is, above all, safe work. Safe work is the basis for achieving all four strategic goals of the Decent Work Agenda. Since the founding of the International Labor Organization (ILO) in 1919, a large number of standards in the field of labor protection. Only safe and healthy work can be worthy. Occupational safety is an integral part of social protection, and successful and effective social dialogue is one of the key elements to ensure safe and healthy work.

The ILO has prepared a new safe and decent work document. The International Labor Conference 2006 adopted the Framework Convention on Occupational Safety and Health No. 187. This framework convention is designed to provide a coherent and systematic approach to OSH issues.

The new Convention requires ILO member states to continuously improve labor protection in order to prevent occupational diseases, injuries and deaths. It identifies three main tools to achieve this goal:

According to the Convention, the creation of safe and healthy working conditions is based on national policy. Its implementation in practice is ensured by a special infrastructure known as the national system of labor protection. The system should include such mechanisms as legislation, regulation and relevant executive bodies, as well as activities and actions such as information and consultation, training and education, occupational health and hygiene services, scientific research, collection and analysis of data on occupational trauma and morbidity. In accordance with these requirements, a national program should be developed containing predetermined time frames, priorities and activities aimed at improving labor protection, as well as elements and means for evaluating the results obtained and the progress of the program.

The ILO Bureau hopes that many countries will ratify this framework convention. World Day for Safety at Work on 28 April provides a unique opportunity to spread the word about this new instrument and to promote its ratification.

AT last years over 100 countries celebrated World Day for Safety at Work. This event was marked by events ranging from official speeches by government leaders, employers' organizations and trade unions to specialized exhibitions on labor protection and demonstrations of traditional dances. There were also extensive discussions and seminars. The events received wide coverage in the media. Additional information can be found on the website.

In Moscow, the ILO Office annually translates, publishes and makes these materials available in Russian. You can adapt these materials and translate them into national languages.

The ILO Subregional Office in Moscow prepared Recommendations to the organizer of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, which contains practical advice and the necessary information.

28 April 2006

In 2006, the ILO calls on governments, employers' and workers' associations to organize, as part of their activities, an awareness campaign on the prevention of industrial accidents and occupational diseases. The ILO also calls on all people in the world of work to think about organizing their work and to identify measures that will prevent accidents and illnesses, not only on 28 April, but throughout the year.

We invite you to join us in promoting the ideas of this important day.

28 April 2004

The central theme of World Day 2004 is injury prevention and a culture of safety at work.

The motto of 2004 is a culture of safety in every workplace

What is a safety culture?

National culture of labor protection means:

  • the priority role of prevention (payment of compensation for poor working conditions is not included in the concept of labor protection culture);
  • use of all opportunities for education and dissemination of knowledge about industrial risks, their control and prevention;
  • active participation of the government, workers and employers in ensuring safe and healthy working conditions through a clearly defined system of rights and obligations;
  • Ensuring the right to safe and healthy working conditions at all levels.

What is Labor Day? Note! There are two different concepts of this term:

  1. Labor Day is mandatory measures at the enterprise, which are carried out with a certain frequency, for example, once a week to improve labor safety;
  2. Labor Day is also the date of the holiday. International Day for Safety at Work CelebratedApril 28 .

Let's explore these concepts...

Day of labor protection at the enterprise, as an event

Labor protection day in the organization is held in accordance with the "Regulations on the OT service at the enterprise" with a frequency of 1 time per week, month or quarter at the discretion of the enterprise. Engineers go to the sites together with the OT specialists to the workers and carry out complex activities.

Day of labor protection is not fixed by law. This event has been traditionally held since the days of the USSR.

These days, labor protection commissions conduct inspections of departments according to a predetermined schedule. They are needed to systematize the work on labor protection, to make it systematic, purposeful, and to increase its effectiveness. And of course, at this time, such global events as World OT Day, which will be discussed in the next section, are not organized.

OT day at the enterprise is not only checks. These days it is also recommended to hold diverse events to improve the culture of production, seminars, lectures, talks dedicated to the promotion of modern methods of ensuring labor safety, a responsible attitude to one's own health, and improving the quality of life.

So that each specialist knows how to spend OSH Day in an organization in a specific period, the following are compiled:

  • typical program for OT Days. Based on it, local programs are compiled for departments and sections. Depending on the amount of work, the program is divided into blocks quarterly, monthly or weekly.
  • orders to hold OT Days.
  • commissions that organize OT Days.
  • schedules of participation in the work of commissions of responsible persons, chief specialists, management of the organization.
  • at the end of each OT Day, a separate order is drawn up, which lists the checks carried out (topics, objects), violations identified, positions and names of the offenders, measures taken by the commission and recommendations issued by it.

It is no secret that, being aware of when labor protection days are held in their unit, engineers and work managers plan the minimum activity of subordinate personnel for these dates.

Occupational safety commissions routinely find numerous, often serious, safety violations. Therefore, the regular holding of thematic OT Days remains an effective preventive measure to increase the level of OT in the workplace.

If all of the above can really be put into practice, well-deserved congratulations on the Day of Occupational Safety and Health can be sent to colleagues at least every day!

World Day for Safety at Work as a holiday

Every year on April 28, all countries celebrate World Day for Safety at Work. On this day, it is also customary to pay tribute to the memory of workers who were injured or died while performing work duties. In Russia, this holiday is celebrated, but is not a state holiday, so this day remains working on weekdays. Most often, Labor Day is celebrated on a large scale at enterprises:

  • on the territory of which work of increased danger is carried out;
  • with a large number of workers and, accordingly, a well-developed OT service;
  • which are directly subordinate to the state, are financed at the expense of budgetary funds.

The purpose of the holiday is to draw the attention of society, employees of organizations of various forms of ownership and activities, government agencies to the problems of labor protection, which have not yet been resolved. The events that are traditionally held on this day contribute to the promotion of a culture of safe work in all spheres of human life.

How to celebrate Occupational Safety Day in an organization?

How to spend Labor Safety Day in an organization depends on the competence and initiative of employees of the labor protection service, trade unions, and the employer. Some prefer to just “under the guise” to leave work early. The bulk of specialists creatively approach the organization of the holiday and arrange:

  • comprehensive checks. Usually, by the onset of Occupational Safety Day, inspections are already completed at the enterprise, and within the framework of the celebration, divisions that have shown the best results are awarded.
  • holiday events. Thematic performances, competitions, KVN, brain-rings on security topics are held.
  • seminars, trainings, courses. World Day for Safety at Work is a day that the best way suitable for additional training, exchange of experience in the field of labor protection. It is passed by security specialists, management of organizations, work managers and, of course, ordinary performers.

On this day, you should not be too lazy to send congratulations on Occupational Safety Day to colleagues, even if everyone has already left “for events”, and you were left to “guard the office”.

Local and federal authorities are increasingly involved in organizing events dedicated to promoting the improvement of the level of labor safety culture. In a number of regions of the country, special Regulations have been developed to coordinate the work of various organizations at the time when the Day of Labor Protection is held. Each year, Labor Day is dedicated to a specific topic and held under a new motto. For example, in 2017, the topic of labor protection measures was the problem of optimizing the collection and application of OSH data, and the motto is the word “Stress”, familiar to every worker.

World Day for Safety at Work is celebrated even in schools, technical schools, and institutes. On this day, students, depending on age, are additionally introduced to the practical aspects of safety:

  • on the road, at home, on a hike, under certain weather conditions;
  • when organizing mass events - hikes, excursions, trips;
  • during industrial training, practice.

Students draw posters, act out skits, participate in thematic games or competitions. It is a common practice when children's drawings on labor protection topics are transferred to trade union organizations, social insurance funds, labor protection departments of sponsored enterprises. There they are hung on special stands with inscriptions like: "Safety at work through the eyes of children." This is done to remind employees of enterprises that their families are waiting for them at home, so they must comply with OT requirements and avoid dangerous situations.

Congratulations on Labor Day: cool, ordinary, different

It would seem that congratulations on OSH Day to colleagues are not such a necessary thing. However, if you approach the process creatively, such a congratulation becomes an important communication tool between employees, departments and entire organizations.

Follow the link to find funny congratulations on Labor Day

An elaborately crafted Happy Occupational Health Day greeting (funny or classic) can be used as:

  • congratulations to colleagues with a professional holiday, recognition of their high business qualities, skills, diligence;
  • transmission of new data, which you need to pay attention to (for example, changing the phone, e-mail address). Accompanied by an attractive picture and an interesting congratulation, such information will be remembered faster;
  • tactful reminder about documents and services not provided on time. In this case, it is better to use a cool picture "with a hint";
  • reason to make friends With the right person or remind about yourself, your organization, its services.

Another important part of the event is the awarding of employees who have achieved high results in ensuring labor safety in the organization, saved someone's life in a dangerous situation, prevented an accident or significant material damage. In this case cool congratulations Happy Labor Day is better not to use. Congratulations should reflect the significance of the achievement, inspire new achievements.

Features of the celebration of the Day of labor protection at a small enterprise

Since the first World OSH Day was held back in 2003, since then large organizations have already accumulated sufficient experience in organizing relevant events. However, when OSH Day is held in a small enterprise (often by one OHS specialist), there are understandable difficulties. In this case, you need:

  • prioritize correctly. You need to choose the right type of activity and devote most of your time to it. For example, if all inspections have recently been completed, a safety best practices seminar for engineers or a related lecture for workers could be arranged.
  • take into account the leadership. If the management does not approve of thematic visual propaganda (posters, drawings) intended to convey labor protection information to colleagues, you should try to squeeze it into Greeting Cards, letters, send in a different way.
  • delegate authority. A number of tasks (for example, holding a lecture for employees on advanced methods for improving labor safety) can be performed by responsible persons (for electrical facilities, medical examinations, hazardous types of work) of departments or direct supervisors. Therefore, they need to be given the appropriate tasks in advance, provide them with materials, and then check the quality of the study of the material.
  • prepare documents. It is necessary to prepare an appropriate order, draw up schedules for holding events, and other necessary documents. In order for the planned work to really be carried out, it will be necessary to carry out appropriate checks - whether lectures are given, whether unscheduled briefings are held, whether employees are familiar with new information.

Most often, the celebration of World Occupational Safety Day turns into a serious job for security specialists, from the implementation of which there is practically no festive mood at all. That is why on this day every OT specialist needs the support and attention of colleagues, and even a small congratulation can give him strength and inspiration for the whole next year.

In matters of labor protection, the efforts of the Ministry of Labor of Russia are focused on solving the main tasks - preserving the life and health of workers, as well as reducing mortality in working age.

For more than ten years, the Russian Federation has been experiencing a steady positive dynamics reducing the level of industrial injuries, including reducing the number of fatal accidents at work. Thus, the total number of accidents at work decreased by 2.3 times - from 85 thousand cases in 2007 to 37.6 thousand in 2017. The number of accidents with severe consequences (group accidents, accidents with severe and fatal outcome) decreased by 2.3 times - from 13.7 thousand cases in 2007 to 5.96 thousand in 2017 (according to current data) .

In 2017, according to operational data, 1.6 thousand workers died in production, which is 2.9 times lower than in 2007 (4.6 thousand people) and 23% lower than in 2016.

During 2013-2015, an institute for a special assessment of working conditions was formed. The introduction of a special assessment of working conditions provided an objective identification and independent assessment of working conditions at each workplace.

The Ministry of Labor of Russia constantly monitors the application of legislation on a special assessment of working conditions, as a result of which the necessary changes are made to the legislation. In total, at the end of 2017, a special assessment of working conditions was carried out for more than 11 million jobs (22% of total number jobs), employing more than 15 million workers. Improved working conditions for more than 1.7 million jobs.

At the end of 2017, the Ministry of Labor of Russia signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation to promote the Concept of "zero injuries" with International Association social security. The parties agreed to work together to promote and develop a global campaign for the Zero Injury Vision, which prioritizes improved safety, health, working conditions and general conditions work within the context of their respective missions, strategies, competencies and resources.

According to the memorandum, the Ministry of Labor of Russia has become an official partner of the global campaign of the Zero Injury Concept, which was launched in Singapore on September 4, 2017 at the XXI World Congress on Occupational Safety and Health. The main goal of the memorandum is to attract national companies to participate in the global campaign of the “Zero Injury Concept” and implement the prevention strategy of the “Zero Injury Concept” at the company level.

In 2018, the efforts of the Russian Ministry of Labor, as before, are aimed at reducing occupational injuries, occupational morbidity and mortality in working age by developing safe work skills.

In order to create a culture of safe work and its implementation in the system of labor relations, the state program "Promotion of employment of the population" includes the subprogram "Safe work", which provides for the development and implementation of a preventive model of labor protection management, modernization of tools government controlled labor protection, encouraging employers to improve working conditions in the workplace.

Currently, the Ministry of Labor of Russia is developing a bill "On Amendments to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation" (in terms of improving the mechanisms for preventing occupational injuries and occupational morbidity, compliance with labor legislation and other regulatory legal acts containing labor law norms), which provides for the improvement of legislation in terms of formation of a preventive and prophylactic model for ensuring the safety of workers at work. It is planned that the bill will be submitted to the Government of the Russian Federation in August this year.

The proposed amendments to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation have been prepared taking into account the results of labor law enforcement practice and are aimed at improving the mechanisms for stimulating the employer to improve working conditions, ensuring the priority implementation and development of a system for preventing industrial injuries and occupational diseases in order to preserve the life and health of workers in the workplace, developing systems of supervision over compliance with the requirements of labor legislation and other regulatory legal acts containing labor law norms.

Amendments to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation provide for:

  • structuring the main procedures for managing labor protection at the employer, specifying the rights and obligations of subjects of labor relations, as well as the procedure for the operation of the service and committee (commission) for labor protection created by the employer in the implementation of labor protection management;
  • increasing the level of protection of the rights of workers to work in conditions that meet the requirements of labor protection by establishing a ban on working in hazardous working conditions;
  • introduction of occupational risk management into the labor protection management system;
  • modernization of the existing approach to the implementation of security measures by switching from the provision of personal protective equipment depending on the name of the profession (position) of the employee employed at a particular workplace (list approach), to the provision of personal protective equipment depending on the harmful production factors at the workplace;
  • improving the procedure for investigating and recording industrial accidents in order to prevent the concealment of microdamages.

The Ministry of Labor of Russia is also carrying out comprehensive work to develop and update labor protection rules, as well as standard norms for the free issue of special clothing, special footwear and other personal protective equipment. Now in the Russian Federation there are more than a hundred rules on labor protection. Most of them were adopted in 1997-2003 by various federal executive bodies.

In 2013–2017, 27 labor protection rules were approved for different types activities and types of work performed, including for the most traumatic activities, such as construction, work at height, etc. The development of labor protection rules is carried out taking into account the Conventions of the International Labor Organization, ratified Russian Federation, as well as the best world practices.

When developing labor protection rules, the so-called “injury rating” is taken into account, that is, first of all, labor protection rules are developed for those types of economic activity in which maximum level injury.

In order to provide employees with highly effective personal protective equipment that meets all the requirements of the technical regulations of the Customs Union "On the safety of personal protective equipment", the norms for the free issuance of special clothing, special footwear and other personal protective equipment to workers of various professions and positions are updated.

To ensure the openness of federal supervision in the field of labor, the OnlineInspection.rf portal has been created, which is in high demand and includes such services as: Duty Inspector, List of Labor Legislation Requirements, Electronic Inspector, and Memos for Employees and Employers.

The Duty Inspector service allows employees and employers to ask questions and get advice on any topic of labor law within three working days.

With the help of the "List of requirements of labor legislation" service, mandatory requirements in the sphere of labor were made public for the first time. The list published on the portal "Onlineinspektsiya.rf" contains 209 basic requirements of labor legislation, the implementation of which is subject to verification, and is uniform for supervised entities and inspection bodies.

The "Electronic Inspector" service has been put into "pilot" operation, 122 checklists have been formed for it (more than 200 are planned in total). Using this service, the employer analyzes the situation with the fulfillment of all mandatory requirements at his enterprise in the same way as a labor inspector would do when checking each requirement of labor legislation.

The service "Reminders for employees and employers" contains 100 reminders on compliance with labor laws, a convenient rubricator used to resolve specific issues.

An application for photographing violations at construction sites has been launched. Mobile phone users have access to free app“I am an inspector”, which allows any citizen who notices a violation of labor protection requirements at a construction site that threatens the life and health of workers to record it on their phone and report this to the labor supervisory authority. The application is hosted on the platforms of the most popular smartphone application stores. This application is integrated with the "Report a problem" service already successfully functioning on the "Onlineinspektsiya.rf" portal. That is, the citizen's appeal and photos, including the developer's information board, will be sent for consideration to the labor supervisory authority in the region.

In the future, it is planned to modernize the system of state supervision (control) based on effective interaction between Rostrud, employers and employees. Employers will have the opportunity to introduce into their activities a system of internal control over compliance with labor legislation, including the state of working conditions and labor protection - the “self-inspection regime”.

The world is celebrating World Day for Safety at Work. This holiday appeared not so long ago, in 1996, but has already caused massive responses from ordinary people, because the problem of injuries and deaths in the workplace is quite widespread.

In fact, the idea originates much earlier. Back in the United States and Canada, the first Day of Remembrance for the Lost Workers was held in 1989. The trade union organizations of these countries were seriously concerned that the number of victims in the workplace is inexorably growing, and decided to call on the public to this problem.

The statistics of the victims is quite large, the International Labor Organization gives the following figures: every year more than 270 million accidents occur worldwide, of which 2-2.5 million are fatal.

Dangers lie in wait for a person everywhere, including at work. The purpose of this event is precisely to protect employees and remind them of the safety rules that must be observed in the workplace.

But not only accidents lie in wait for a worker at work. Stress and unscrupulous employers also cause moral harm to human health. To protect the rights of the worker, each state has a Labor Code. If the boss is wrong or incompetent, you can contact the labor inspectorate in order to restore justice.

In any production there is a department that is designed to ensure the safety of its employees, so April 28 is considered their professional holiday. Usually all employees get together and it is the responsibility of the one who is in charge of safety to conduct a conversation about how important care is in the workplace; funny safety quizzes and watching documentaries on the topic of caution and attentiveness at work.

In more than a hundred countries around the world this holiday is celebrated annually, and more and more leaders and ordinary workers are showing interest in the goals and directions of this event.

And the goals pursued by the supporters of this event are simple, but very important:

1. Reduce the number of deaths and injuries resulting from work
2. Raise the level of qualifications of those responsible for labor safety.
3. To draw public attention to this problem, so that each person, for his part, should be attentive and exclude negligence in relation to work.
4. Solve those problems that interfere with the security of the workflow.

And finally, this day is celebrated in order to honor the memory of those who died at work and to remind once again that caution is needed in the process of work, as in other areas of life, because a person’s health and even life can be at stake.

For the past nine years, every year on April 28, World Day for Safety at Work has been celebrated. At one time, the International Organization for Labor Protection decided in this way to draw attention to this problem. After all, the number of deaths and injuries of employees in the workplace is only growing every year.

Russia, unfortunately, is no exception in this regard. Our country has a long history. Still started with Russian Empire, back in 1882. It was then that a factory inspectorate was created, the main task of which, in addition to monitoring, was to control employers - they paid special attention to their compliance with all. Children and adolescents, of whom there were many in factories in those years, were given special attention. 21 years after that, in 1903, rules were written to provide compensation to those workers who suffered in the workplace. In the event of the death of an employee, compensation was paid to his next of kin.

The history of the holiday itself, which is called Labor Day, began in the USA and Canada. In 1989 the trade unions of these countries held a "Day of Remembrance for the Dead Workers". Just ten years later, more than a hundred countries of the world adopted this experience and began to draw the attention of government officials to such a glaring problem as labor protection in all sorts of legal ways. And finally, the holiday began to be celebrated under its modern name - Labor Protection Day. Thus, more and more countries have become aware of the scope that this problem has acquired. The data provided by the International is simply shocking: about six thousand people in the world die every day at work! And this figure is increasing by 10% every year. Most of these deaths are associated with savings on safety equipment, thereby the employer reduces the market value of the product, which seems extremely beneficial to him. The hackneyed phrase about the inevitability of occupational diseases should be eradicated from the lexicon of employers once and for all.

The ILO itself, the founder of such a holiday as the International Day for Safety at Work, was created by a structural division of the League of Nations back in 1919. The activists of this organization were the social democrats of America and Europe. Its charter was developed by the Peace Conference Labor Commission. This statute is included in

Today, more than a hundred countries are holding rallies, marches, actions in support of workers, and not only on Labor Day. Most enterprises and organizations in Russia actively support such events.

The ILO gives such disappointing data: annually due to accidents and in connection with diseases caused by professional activity more than 2 million people die worldwide. Plus, 270 suffer injuries in the workplace. More than 160 million people are registered as medical due to occupational diseases. About 600 thousand industrial accidents are registered only in the CIS countries. These by no means cheerful figures should make all employers think about the organization of working conditions, that safety at work should be above all. It is simply impossible to save on safety, this is unacceptable. And it is on this point that specialists of international services focus the attention of employers.

The ILO says that 4% of world GDP is lost precisely as a result of the negligent attitude of employers to the working conditions that are created in the workplace. It is also worth considering that deaths as a result and occupational diseases should not be “occupational costs”. And Occupational Safety Day is another reason to think about the safety of employees in the workplace.
